It's all the little shit, too. Which isn't so little when it comes down to it.
This post is really intended for folks who pay a lot less attention to politics than everyone on this site does.
Yeah, there's the ridiculous unconstitutional power grab trying to block billions of dollars of congressionally appropriated federal funds from being spent for their legislatively approved purposes. There’s the fact that our Secretary of Defense is now a drunkard, alleged rapist, white nationalist, bigot, and staggeringly unqualified and unfit partying scumbag. And there's the pardon. of 1500 insurrectionists, more than 150 of whom violently assaulted cops, all of whom attacked our capitol, and two of whom have already gotten reacquainted with the law they despise -- one rearrested, one killed in a shootout with police. And there's the withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement. And the World Health Organization. And on and on and on.
But it’s more. So much more than that. The stuff that doesn’t garner all the headlines.
It's the fact the "independent" Department of Justice is firing people associated with the prosecutions of the convicted felon in chief, seditionist, and corrupt coup leader. The fact that ex-oil lobbyists now have senior jobs heading EPA's air office. The fact that there’s a massive effort underway to terrorize federal employees and decimate federal agencies staffing by conducting McCarthyesque witch-hunts, installing chickenshit sycophants wherever they can, and rooting out expertise anywhere they find it. the fact that they’re eliminating anything linked to a whiff of science related to climate change. And on and on.
With shockingly few people and institutions doing anything about it. While Google’s decision to change its maps in the U.S. to incorporate "Gulf of America,” is an idiotic example, it is emblematic.
This is not an alarmist position. All of this — all of it — is really, really, really fucked up. Made exponentially worse, of course, by the fact that one of our two major parties — which happens to control both house of Congress, either just doesn’t give a shit (at best) or, in many quarters, is actively cheering these assaults on. Either way, these spineless coup lovers and profoundly unpatriotic worthless cowards won’t do a damn thing about to stop any of it.
It's decidedly not normal. There is the pathetic, craven, chickenshit acqiueisence we are seeing from the tech companies and most members of Congress and the editors of major newspapers and tv stations.
RED ALERT. THE MESSAGE FOR OTHERS OUTSIDE OF OUR. BUBBLE HERE?
DON'T ACCEPT THIS SHIT AS JUST PARTISAN BACK AND FORTH, AND "BOTH SIDES DO THIS". IT ISN'T, AND THEY DON'T.
Stay informed -- pick one or 2 issues you really care about. Or pick classes of people if you have any gay or transgender friends or family members or if you know any immigrants. Any immigrants at all. Pressure your members of Congress.
Don't disengage. Don't turn a blind eye to this.
If you want a functioning government that does anything beyond protecting the staggering of wealth of Nazi Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, etc etc etc. And one that doesn't systematically work to start stripping rights away from the rest of us, and decimating the rule of law and our environmental protections.
