x ✅ DEI Employer of the Day™ Mastercard "As with our commitment to decency, diversity, equity and inclusion [DEI] are embedded in our DNA through the Mastercard Way." "We do this not only because it has a meaningful impact on our business, but because it is the right thing to do." Priceless.

From Marc Elias and Democracy Docket. 10 Things We Can All Do to Protect Democracy. www.democracydocket.com/…
The most common question I receive is how everyday citizens can help in the fight for democracy. My advice, take the first step, start with something small and see what works for you. Here are ten things all of us can do. 1. Stay engaged When all the news is about Trump and pardons and lies, it is easy to want to retreat and stop paying attention. Don’t. It is precisely when things are hard that we must all lean into remaining vigilant and informed. ✂️ 10. Don’t give up hope Our best political movements were hopeful. John Kennedy insisted that “we should not let our fears hold us back from pursuing our hopes.” Bill Clinton was the man from Hope. Barack Obama ran a campaign based on hope and change. Donald Trump and the Republicans want you to give up hope. Despair and cynicism fuel their movement. We must always, in the words of Jesse Jackson, “keep hope alive.”
2-9 are worth reading too.

Sweet Jeebus. This story keeps getting worse. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Once Pitched Deadly Human Vaccine Experiment. newrepublic.com/...
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Donald Trump’s nominee to run the Department of Health and Human Services, once pitched the idea to run an experiment on the children of Samoa to see whether vaccines actually work. Kennedy Jr., who ran the anti-vaccine nonprofit Children’s Health Defense (from which he profited greatly), still claims the long-debunked theory that vaccines cause autism and a range of health problems. A report from NBC News published Friday shows that the man who may be in charge of America’s health agencies is more than willing to play games with public safety to test his own conspiracy theories.
From an article i grabed for context.
The Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary nominee will participate in hearings with two committees, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) and the Senate Committee on Finance. The first hearing will occur next week, on Wednesday, in front of the Senate finance committee, which oversees HHS. The Senate's chief committee covering issues tied to health and healthcare, the HELP committee, will probe Kennedy the following day, on Thursday.

I like this idea!
x Free "modest proposal" for Denmark. Call Trump's bluff. Demand $100B as a downpayment for negotiations over Greenland. Then use it to start hiring all the scientists whose NIH grants have been frozen. Steal America's scientific expertise while Trump is yelling at icebergs. — emptywheel (@emptywheel.bsky.social) January 25, 2025 at 10:29 PM

Well, of course he did.
x Hegseth ignores an act of Congress that renamed an army base previously named for a Confederate general who slaughtered U.S. troops to preserve slavery. What is it about the name “Liberty” that Hegseth so dislikes?

Good Trouble anyone?
Trump’s DEI Snitch Email Is Being Targeted by Spammers. www.thebulwark.com/…
THE EMAIL ACCOUNT SET UP BY THE Trump White House to encourage government employees to snitch on their DEI-promoting colleagues appears to be the target of a mass spamming campaign designed to overwhelm those administering it. The day after the inauguration, Trump’s Office of Personnel and Management (OPM) issued a memo to government agencies tasking them with rooting out Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The memo told recipients that if they were “aware of a change in any contract description or personnel position description since November 5, 2024 to obscure the connection between the contract and DEIA or similar ideologies,” they were to “report all facts and circumstances to
[email protected] within 10 days.” ✂️ The Trump White House did not return a request for comment. But there is a fair bit of data to provide clues as to what type of material is being sent to the
[email protected] account. People have suggested emailing the account Scientology emails, porn, the script of The Bee Movie, and warnings that unqualified, mediocre white people are being hired to head up important government agencies.

hmm, good question.

Print this and stick it on your fridge and reread it regularly like a daily affirmation. Don't Gaslight Yourself. You're Right To Grieve What's Happening to America. johnpavlovitz.substack.com/...
✂️ This is a reminder that what is happening in America right now is not at all normal and that you are right to feel this disorientation. I need you to hear this, friend:
You're okay.
You're not crazy.
You're also in good company. Right now there is a massive army of similarly walking wounded sharing this place with you; fellow exhausted souls who realize that none of this makes any sense—people concluding that for their health, they will need to create distance from people they once allowed close proximity.
There are millions of good people out here still looking to be the kind of people the world needs; those committed to doing no harm, burdened to bring something decent where it is missing. There are many of us who see clearly:
We can see that this movement in our nation is a bastardization of humanity, a rebellion against goodness, a mutiny against sanity.
We can see that those sanctioning and defending and co-signing it are similarly unwell, equally disconnected from anything benevolent, similarly propelled by fear and greed and bitterness. And that's why we need to keep resisting it. You need to push back against the surrounding madness that tries to convince you that you've gone mad.

Evening Shade Seekers! Though it's not happy, it is International Holocaust Rememberance Day.
It's also Vietnam Peace Day.
Every year on January 27th Vietnam Peace Day commemorates the signing of the Paris Peace Accords. This event ended America’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
On a lighter note, Happy National Bubble Wrap Day!
AND Happy National Chocolate Cake Day!
Tomorrow is National Blueberry Pancake Day.
