The title is taken from a segment of the radio show Plato’s Cave, co-hosted by Hobart & William Smith College Professor Iva Deutchman, whom we lost on January 3 at age 72. She was an enthusiastic progessive in the DKos mold. Her radio show, with fellow HWS Professor Linda Robertson, ran during the dark Bush administration. But the things they raged about in the Democratic party still resonate today.

The loonies of the right have their own people to listen to, the FOX Network and Rush Limbaugh. They won't turn on a PBS station. People who listen to us seem grateful to have their point of view represented.

Government for and by the brain-dead!

I get three to four offers each day to interview right-wing guests on the radio. They're so on message. Where's our network to get the message out?

The Democrats don't have a party. You have polarizing rhetoric but no significant differences. They're a group of special-interest groups that don't talk to each other.

(Note that these liberals, like so many, refer to Democrats as “they”, not “we”. That is alarming.)

Prof. Deutschman’s research specialty was the conservative movement in the US. She hope to understand their motivations. She quipped, “If I ever figure it out, I’ll tell the Democrats!” (Her direct quotes generally end with an exclamation point, not a period.
