The newly installed president has declared that all Federal Employees must become snitches, stoolies, rats, and squealers on their colleagues “within 10 days or face adverse consequences”. Their goal however is much more far reaching than their stated desire to purge diversity, equity and inclusion efforts from the federal government. They seek to make our entire society into one wherein it will become normal for people to rat out anyone they don’t like. They want an equivalent of the East German secret police (Stasi:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stasi_Records_Agency) who planted collaborators everywhere.
In Russia, North Korea, and China this is precisely what makes common people deeply fearful of even whispering their thoughts. In such a society, no friend or family member can be trusted. Fear is everywhere. Free speech and even free thought is destroyed. In Mao’s China children reported their own parents and his Cultural Revolution students murdered their own teachers with impunity. In the society this president seeks, you will see no opinions like mine freely expressed. I will be hunted, and, if you even inadvertently step out of line, you will be too.
This is as serious as death. Snark, in the face of such horror, is like a baby facing a tank. This shit is much darker than we can grasp.
