DK Quilt Guild: A place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too.
We NEED diarists!
Your diary can be elaborate and full of photos, a simple story of your own quilting history or that of someone you love, a discussion of a current project or a technique you're learning, new adventures... You could post quilt retreat-day recipes (things like crockpot meals, so food appears without much attention from you)…
We could do show and tell or open thread, also, but either way, we need diarists to host. It is EASY if you're willing to take the chance. We NEED diarists!

I presume that most quilters have orphan blocks. Blocks they did maybe once or twice because of a class, or because they wanted to try a new technique. Here are a few of mine.
My first attempt at applique. Only looks good from a distance.
I wanted to try a Judy Neimeyer pattern, so I chose this one. It's supposed to be a place mat. I did the center the way it was supposed to be done by stitching spirals. Hate it. Will applique over the center. It's 20 inches across. I will applique it on a square background.
This next one is a trial block for a commission for wedding heart throw.
The one below I made from some leftover fabric scraps from a project. I’m planning on making it into a pillow.
This is my small postage stamp block. It to will become a pillow once I put a border on it.
Tried to get blocks that represent different seasons.
I've got at least a dozen more orphan blocks, but I don't want to bore people too much.
Now, what to do with all of the orphan blocks? For me, I'm going to do a sampler quilt. I should be able to make one that is queen sized for the bed.
Now to the give away. I have a good start on a barn quilt with smaller quilts inset on the side. The pattern, although somewhat rough, is easily understood. I will include all the fabric for 6 barns which finish at 18”. I've done the 2 brown barns. There are also 2 reddish ones and 2 weathered white ones. All the inset quilts are done. I cannot finish this throw quilt. I was making it for my sister who died 2 ½ years ago. Her death, at that point, was unexpected. I don't want to discuss further. I offered it to family members but none of them quilt.
Anyone want this? I am perfectly happy to ship it anywhere. It is too difficult a reminder for me.
This is square, the camera wasn't.
So what is everyone else working on? I have just started a miniature quilt, one of Kim Diehl’s. Just cut it out so far.
