Good morning, beloved Newdists. My cold is going away. Yay!

How are you all holding up? This has been me for the last two weeks. Except when I logged to X to see what idiocy the Orange Doozy was up to, and then back again I went.

me, these days.

Hamish MacBeth books are turning out to be lots of fun to read; as well as Rhys Bowen’s PC Evan Evans series. Lots of quirky characters.

I wish Orange Doozy would just tell Californians where the Seekrit Fawcet is located. You know — the one that he insists needs to be turned on for CA to have loads of water.

Onwards —

What do they know and who are they communicating with?

Sound up

x Turn your sound up! What a beautiful noise! Trumpeter Swans on a frozen lake - a small stretch of open water near the edge! Too Wonderful for words. I needed reminding that in 1933 fewer than 70 wild individuals were known to exist... but if we work together we can save birds! pic.twitter.com/0mF5LtFEcJ — Pacificnorthwestkate (@pnwkate) January 18, 2025

Amazing work

x Here's my latest bird drawing! This kind of bird is actually really rare where I live. Given that they're more common in the Southeast of North America, I decided to draw one with a plant that's in the Southeast as well! Can anybody guess the bird and/or plant? pic.twitter.com/DbIbzI5vfF — Zach Branigan (@ZachBranigan1) January 23, 2025

A sweet photo of a proud couple and great parents

A beautiful photo of GLG and RLK KA85 prior to their first successful nesting season in 2020/21.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Flower time —

x Vicia lunata is a rare wildflower that grows on just a few mountain slopes in Cyprus and Turkey. Its flowers are so bright they look as though someone coloured them in with a highlighter pen. pic.twitter.com/sNsYiFfrQv — Chris Thorogood (@thorogoodchris1) January 19, 2025

Florida beachside snow is pretty

x The “after” video of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk when 4-6 inches of snow dropped last night! pic.twitter.com/k8uKhHGSBn — nickinbusiness (@nickinbiz) January 22, 2025

Dancing and wooing —

x Find someone who makes you want to sing and dance like these black-footed albatross!

These beautiful seabirds, named ka'upu in Hawaiian, began arriving on Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge in November, excitedly reuniting with mates they haven’t seen since summer. pic.twitter.com/TFV3VNXGP8 — USFWS Pacific (@USFWSPacific) January 21, 2025

Gossip must be rife in the wilderness

Those ears are so cute.

x Red foxes are very resourceful in coping with cold weather conditions. They stay warm by curling up into little balls and wrapping themselves in their big, bushy tails. 🦊
