Renewable Friday: Industrial Recycling [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2025-01-24

Jonathan renewableenergy.bsky.social built a feed for recycling on Bluesky, but it picks up hardly anything other than craft-level projects. Here is what we really want—battery recycling and such on the industrial scale. Repurpose used EV batteries for storage, and later extract all of the minerals for circular production.

But no nuclear batteries, except in space probes to bodies too far away for solar power, where the craft will never return to Earth. The practical limit for solar power is the orbit of Jupiter, so nuclear batteries have been used in probes to Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and out of the Solar System. Rovers and that one helicopter on Mars have used them where carrying enough solar panels around was wildly impractical.

We’re still trying to get Jonathan’s attention to fix his Bluesky renewables feeds. We will publish WesMorgan1’s Howto here soon.
