Comfortable Lies [1]

If you are still trying to wrap your head around how people can believe something is true even though all the direct and tangible evidence demonstrates otherwise; consider that there is still a Flat Earth Society.
It’s not hard to convince people of something they want to be true. There are people who make their living off true believers. There is both magic and magical thinking in the world. Being able to discern the difference is important I think. Opinions are not relevant when they are at odds with facts. To advance in knowledge and understanding it requires someone to dig into the matter. To question.
I feel a bit embarrassed if I hold on to something that isn’t true and pass it along. That I helped promote ignorance is not acceptable to me. I was an unwitting dupe, ignorant of the facts and may have spread it to another person and sacrificed credibility. I self correct immediately and try to be more disciplined and discerning each time it happens. It’s untenable to me to operate any differently than this. In the worst case it can result in a wasted life should one surround themselves in comfortable lies and navigates their choices in support of such falsehoods. Ideology is an anathema to growth in my opinion.
My assumption is that we may look back when it’s all over and think, “What a waste that was”.
