“The less reasonable a cult is, the more men seek to establish it by force” — Jean-Baptiste Rousseau
People often call politicians they disagree with ´insane´. In Trump’s case, the evidence is overwhelming that the claim is valid. His mental deterioration has long been obvious. Now his declension is picking up speed. Not that the GOP will worry about his lunacy ‘ at least publicly. They will follow him down the rabbit hole. Between lust for power, cowardice, and avarice, they lack the spine to take a stand. And at his command, they´re goosestepping down the path to perdition — America teeters.
Three days into the new regime, Trump addressed the plutocrats and high-flying liberals at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He didn’t go in person, so the crowd had to watch his mendacity on a screen. The canape-eaters must have hoped his rant was a joke — while knowing it wasn’t. Here are some of his lies.
He started with an overstatement of his victory. ( Click HERE for video )
This has been a truly historic week in the United States. Three days ago I took the oath of office and we began the golden age of America. The recent presidential election was won by millions of votes and all seven — every one of them — all seven swing states. It was a massive mandate from the American people, like hasn’t been seen in many years, and some of the political pundits, even some of my so-called enemies, said it was the most consequential election victory in 129 years. That’s quite nice.
Imagine the self-congratulation if he had received a majority of the popular vote — as Biden and Obama did (twice). He may claim a “massive mandate”, but most Americans, including many who voted for him, prefer Democratic policies .
He continued in the same divorced-from-reality vein. It is his only speed.
What the world has witnessed in the past 72 hours is nothing less than a revolution of common sense. Our country will soon be stronger, wealthier, and more united than ever before, and the entire planet will be more peaceful and prosperous as a result of this incredible momentum and what we’re doing and going to do.
No disinterested observer will ever use the phrase ‘common sense’ in the same sentence as Trump unless a negative is involved. As for his predictions, they remain hot air until they exist. The reasonable citizen will not hold her breath.
It is hard for a woman to feel united with the misogynists who stripped her of her reproductive rights. Minorities will continue to suffer Jim Crow redux. And LGBTQ will not soon make peace with the bigots who hate them.
It will also take an economist from the Conservative School of Voodoo Economics to explain how tariffs lead to a more prosperous world. If they have questions, the Great Depression has answers.
Trump goes on to rip Biden for America’s debt and deficit — ignoring his more sizable contribution to the nation’s red ink. Instead, he pats himself on the back for his tremendous achievements over the last three days.
That’s why from the moment I took office, I’ve taken rapid action to reverse each and every one of these radical left policies that created this calamity, in particular with immigration, crime, and inflation.
You cannot deny Trump is doing stuff to stick it to immigrants. However, it takes chutzpah to say you are dealing with crime when you just pardoned 1,500 criminals — one of whom his own DOJ has just rearrested . And I’m not sure what he has done about inflation.
Then, not a minute after he ripped Biden for deficits, he celebrated his plan to blow up the deficit again — by giving the wealthy buckets of money, while promising workers crumbs.
To further unleash our economy, our majorities in the House and Senate, which we also took along with the presidency, are going to pass the largest tax cut in American history, including massive tax cuts for workers and families and big tax cuts for domestic producers and manufacturers. And we’re working with the Democrats on getting an extension of the original Trump tax cuts.
Then it gets silly. He raves about the US as a manufacturing hub.
As you probably know, by just reading any paper, my message to every business in the world is very simple. Come make your product in America and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on Earth. We’re bringing them down very substantially, even from the original Trump tax cuts.
Before trying to convince foreigners to make stuff in America, he should ask America’s CEOs why they keep off-shoring manufacturing jobs.
Trump continues with his prime economic policy — increasing consumption taxes for American consumers.
But if you don’t make your product in America, which is your prerogative, then very simply you will have to pay a tariff, differing amounts, but a tariff which will direct hundreds of billions of dollars and even trillions of dollars into our Treasury to strengthen our economy and pay down debt.
At this point, anyone who believes a regular Republican, much less Trump, has a viable plan to pay down the debt needs to put down their crack pipe. Foreign producers do not pay tariffs. Americans do. It is as dumb a statement as saying that Ford pays the sales tax on the cars it sells in America.
If any MAGA reading this has trouble keeping up, look at your receipt the next time you buy something. You paid the dollar amount after the word ‘tax'.
Next, Trump celebrates that companies and other countries are investing in America. Is there a time when they didn’t? We’ve come a long way since Republicans were whining about foreigners — mainly the Japanese — buying up America.
He goes on to say that if the price of oil came down, the war in Ukraine would be over. Really? Since when did Putin care about the Russian economy? In his dream to reestablish the Soviet Union, he’ll fight that war until the last Russian soldier is dead, every civilian starving, and every last ruble has gone to the war effort — unless he gets to keep what he has already grabbed and Ukraine agrees to leave Russian soil.
Trump moves on to a Republican buzzword — “Freedom.” It’s another concept — like ‘law and order’ and ‘family values’ — they celebrate in the abstract and spit on in reality.
“In addition, I’m pleased to report that America is also a free nation, once again. On day one, I signed an executive order to stop all government censorship. No longer will our government label the speech of our own citizens as misinformation or disinformation, which are the favorite words of censors and those who wish to stop the free exchange of ideas and, frankly, progress.#
Who will tell the red states to stop censoring American history and pretending gays don't exist?
Trump then reveals that from now on ‘white supremacy’ will be known as ‘merit-based’.
“My administration has taken action to abolish all discriminatory diversity, equity and inclusion nonsense. And these are policies that were absolute nonsense throughout the government and the private sector. With the recent yet somewhat unexpected great Supreme Court decision just made, America will once again become a merit-based country. You have to hear that word, merit-based country.”
Then he’s back to the Ukraine war.
“Our efforts to secure a peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine are now hopefully underway. It’s so important to get that done. That is an absolute killing field. Millions of soldiers are being killed. Nobody’s seen anything like it since World War II. They’re laying dead all over the flat fields. It’s a flat field, farmland, and there’s millions of Russians and millions of Ukrainians. And nobody’s seen anything like it since World War II. It’s time to end it.”
Let’s remember that the phrase “killing field” was the name given to the atrocities in Cambodia. Also, as bad as the casualties have been the number has not reached “millions of Russians and millions of Ukrainians”.
Trump then takes credit for the Los Angeles Olympics. Fine. If he wants credit for everything that happens in LA, let him take credit for the fires.
”And then we have the [2028 Los Angeles] Olympics coming up, which I was instrumental in getting also, in my first term.”
Then he mercifully finished.
