Now that we have a new Presidential administration in place (with a lot of placeholder appointments and only Marco Rubio confirmed by the Senate) the expected flood of Executive Orders has begun to appear on the White House Web site, and the resistance to each has started to take shape. We could treat all of this as the worst of bad news, but as I see it, every challenge brings with it the hope and expectation of effective counter-activities in defense of our Constitution and majority values, and disaster to those who declare us their existential enemies,
to be crushed, to be seen fleeing before them, and hearing the lamentations of our women.
As if.
The intentional cruelty of the new administration is going to do some damage, but apart from ginormous tax cuts and other financial favors to the Broligarchy neither the insiders nor the MAGA faithful care that much about actually carrying out the threatened harms. It is enough, for them, to hear rants about
Throwing out twice as many undocumented immigrants as there are (and destroying the economy)
Stopping all legal entry of immigrants and asylum seekers (except on H1B visas)
Reversing “inflation” by slapping huge taxes on all imports
Soshulizm

The Deep State/The Swamp
Ending Russia’s war on Ukraine on Day, um, 3 with threats of sanctions and tariffs, because of course Biden and the Libs never thought of that. /s
along with largely ineffectual Executive Orders and threats of impossible legislation.
We know who our people are, in general, and some of them know who is stepping up on particular issues raised by these Executive Orders.
We also know where the Pointing and Laughing is coming from.

Someday soon they will put Trump’s latest EOs up. Meanwhile, Wikipedia has gotten out ahead of them with unofficial numbers, and a page with the full text of each such EO. We can expect to see a page on the pushback to each.

Part of one of the Executive Orders revoked on Monday was put in by LBJ more than 50 years ago, banning racial discrimination in government contracts. (H/T Chris Hayes et al.)
One of the Executive Orders that was rescinded is a literal desegregation order. It’s 1965. LBJ signed it to desegregate Federal contracting. It was an original request of the Martin Luther King era, and including Martin Luther King Civil Rights Act, that he has now rescinded.
You might remember the Dishonored Draft/I Have a Dream speech that Wrong-Wingers so often and so hypocritically cite as an excuse for continuing racism.

Attorneys general from 22 states sued to block Donald Trump’s executive order attempting to ban birthright citizenship.
Creating a category of federal workers known as “ Schedule F ,” which would lack the job protections enjoyed by career civil servants. The order is subject to a legal challenge brought by the National Treasury Employees Union (Courtney Rozen reports for Bloomberg Law )
DOGE is in violation of many laws. Public Citizen, the State Democracy Defenders Fund and the American Federation of Government Employees sued to ensure that the agency has open meetings and keeps searchable records.
