We've Elected a Money-Junky [1]

This is the first story I’ve ever posted on Daily Kos and it’s a quick reflection on something that has been going through my head the last few days: We in America normalize absolutely crazy effing people doing crazy things if they happen to be rich. Look at Elon throwing up a Nazi salute (twice)...even Trumpies know not to show up at work and do anything even close to that. Yet, somehow, it’ll just be forgotten in his case (seemingly forgiven based on wealth I guess).

I referenced junkie in my title because I jokingly call myself a tennis junkie (mainly playing, but the viewing lately of Australian Open has been a nice escape), and I got to thinking about the “Four Cs” of addiction...compulsion, control, craving and consequences. Money/power are the compulsions of these people, we all get to see how much they crave it, and the 34 felonies that came for TFG were just so sweet to the rest of us...until, ugh, no consequence. The pure misery on his face when he sat in that church yesterday was some solace to me...I know I haven’t felt that miserable in ages (there have been struggles over the years, but nothing like what his face betrayed). He is a plainly miserable person, his addiction has consequences for him daily, money cannot make one happy.

I think the entire Western world really has a money addiction, and maybe the people who’ve checked out from that and live on the edge of society will one day be viewed as the sane ones of this world (I think Foresty Forest youtube van-lifer must be one of the most sane humans in North America).

We are lost (Westerners) and have lost sight that the peak experiences you can have in this world should not relate to money (helping someone, achieving something athletically or climbing a real or metaphorical mountain, making someone laugh, creating something new), and just writing this is making me want to figure out a way to spend one week away from money, but I honestly can’t even figure out how that would be possible.

And, thank you to everyone on this site, it really helps me keep perspective and not normalize all of this “flood the zone with shit” behavior while realizing they are pursuing other goals (related to consolidating power and assuring all future flows of money are in their control).
