I got invited to the BBQ ! [1]

When I first got invited to the black storytelling festival Funda Fest 27, I got really excited and shared the news with my wife . She replied "that's nice".
"It's better than nice" I said "I got invited to the BBQ"
My wife looked at me horrified and responded "you can't say that".
{She is a sweet, smart, caring woman but she is white, but that's ok nobody is perfect}
I showed her the brown skin on my arm adding "I definetly can say that and I am going to post it on social media"
She insisted "I don't think that's a good idea"
I decided not to post my BBQ coment on social media.
A few days later I got an email from the organization producing the show. I showed the email to my wife: "look the name of the organization is Rhode Island Black Storytellers "
She gave me a confused look
"it's called RIBS" I said "I did get invited to the BBQ"
I love my wife, I wish she was here to see how much people laugh when I told that story tonight as I introduced myself to the audience at Fund Fest. I wish she could see how proud I was after I todl my story and got a standing ovation.
I wish she could see the tears of happiness that me, who came to this country undocumented, with a stutter and no knowledge of the English language, now gets the chance to share his immigration stories in front of hundreds of people and help combat the anit-immigrant rethoric of the current Nazi Trump administration.
