Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) reached perihelion on Jan 13 around 10:17 UTC. It survived!

Now is it putting on quite a show. The better views are for observers in the southern hemisphere, given the orientation of the comet relative to the Sun as seen from earth.

Here are a few outstanding images posted on social media.

Pic 1 was taken by astronomer and nightscape photographer Yuri Beletsky on Jan 16 in the southern hemisphere from the ESO Paranal observatory in the Atacama desert in Chile.
