Trump Executive Orders and other Day One Disasters [1]

He's already doing damage. He promised to do it on day one, and he had it all waiting for him, ready to go.

He started by canceling 78 executive actions by President Joe Biden.

A regulatory freeze of bureaucrats issuing regulations until Trump has full control of the government.

His goal is to stop the wheels of government from turning at all. If he had his way, he wouldn't even fund the government, so no one got paid, no would do any work, no services would be rendered. Big banks were also pleased with the order, and looking forward to the dismantling of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Federal workers have to return to full-time in person work.

We know what this one's about. If they're not there in person, they're not doing any work and shouldn't get paid.

Withdraw from the Paris climate treaty.

Trump pulled out of the agreement when he was president. Biden went right back into it when he became president. And now Trump has pulled us out again. We know he doesn't care about the environment or the world. There's only the worship of money. Climate groups vow to challenge Trump on Trump's executive order on drilling, fossil fuels and critical minerals.

An order restoring freedom of speech and preventing censorship of free speech.

No more content moderation by any news agency or social media. The world according to Trump. Right wing hate speech and racism is all just fine now.

Reversed an order by Biden taking away the designation of Cuba as a sponsor of terrorism.

What did Marco Rubio tell him? Isn't it time to let a country 90 miles off our coast be able to exist after 60 years? We were the ones that tried to do a regime change in Cuba. Cuba's president said it was an act of arrogance and contempt for the truth Trump signing the order. He also said Trump was continuing a cruel economic war against Cuba for the purpose of domination.

Gen. Milley's portrait in the Pentagon.

Then Trump did some petty things.

A portrait of Chief of Staff General John Milley had a portrait in the Pentagon.

Suddenly gone.

Then, suddenly it wasn't there.

The things that Trump has ordered done is now showing his hatred for women.

A government website that offers information on apportion and birth control has been disabled.

News is now in that Vivik Ramaswamy will not be part of the Department of Government Efficiency. No other position has been named for him. He said he is planning on running for elected office soon. It's 2 years until next elections. He doesn't live in any state where officials have resigned from posts to be in Trump's inner circle. So what would he be running for? Apparently he's looking at the Governorship of Ohio. He was born in Cincinnati, and I guess he still lives there in Ohio, somewhere.

Joe does not look happy.

Congress passed the Laken Riley Act on Monday designed to cut down on immigration.

McDonalds Grimace? Or nudge, nudge, wink, wink?

Trump, once again, said he would be signing pardons for the J6 criminals.

An AP-NORC poll show that only 2 in 10 support J6 pardons. 6 in 10 oppose the pardons and half of those very strongly. That has to include a lot of MAGA faithful to reach those numbers.

A danger to us all.

Trump sat at a small desk at Capital One Arena signing executive orders and pardons.

He looks tired and bored to tears.

The Senate unanimously confirmed Marco Rubio to be Secretary of State on Monday. He said that the end of the war in Ukraine would require both parties of giving up something.

Trump is definitely off base on pulling the United States out of the Paris climate agreement. Half of the country think he's wrong.

One signing that drew cheers was for federal employees to return to in person work with the threat to fire them if they don't.

Trump recinded a Title XI order from 2021 that protected people from discrimination by gender identify or sexual orientation. Of course he would.

The wild west is what Donald wants for artificial intelligence. H.R. 3369 Artificial Intelligence Accountability Act was introduced in July of 2023 and has gone nowhere. Nine bills to advance AI came out of the the Committee on Science, Space and Technology on Sept. 11, 2024 but have not been acted on. The Brennan Center for Justice has an artificial intelligence legislation tracker to keep up with the changing environment.

Trump recinded another order by Biden that required AI developers to share their data on about their products' safety and security with the government, and called for standards for the development of AI to control economic impact and risks.

A Biden order to boost voter registration was canceled because Republicans said Biden had exceeded his authority by government overreach. Of course they would. Anything that makes things easier to vote is against their grain, because they think it always benefits the Democrats and not the Republicans, who only want white people to vote.

Immigration policy that narrowly targeted those who had committed serious crimes or deemed national security threats, or stopped at the border was recinded. This returns the policy to Trump's policy that everyone in the country illegally is top priority. He also promised to end federal grants to sanctuary cities and states that don't follow his immigration and deportation policies. Again, he talked about deputizing local officials to do his dirty work.

Trump was good to his word in pardoning 1500 Jan.6th defendants and six commutations. "These are the hostages," Trump said at the time. Later he told Merrick Garland to dismiss 450 pending Jan.6th cases. Nancy Pelosi was one of the first to denounce the executive order, and Trump. Metropolitan DC police officer Daniel Hodges, who got crushed in a doorway, posted on social media a two-word message in disgust . "Thanks America." The attorney for Enrique Tarrio, of the Proud Boys, who was sentenced to 22 years, called his client's pardon a turning point for America. Chuck Schumer said, "Donald Trump is issuing in a Golden Age for people that break the law and attempt to overthrow the government." A crowd gathered around a Washington D.C. jail awaiting Jan.6th prisoners to be released. A sad day for criminal justice. Merrick Garland should have gone after Trump first and worked his way down and this all wouldn't be happening.

Other DC and Capitol Police officers who testified at the Jan.6th hearing and were injured in the melee voiced their outrage and betrayal at Trump's action. Rightly so. Some of them have civil cases pending against Trump for inciting the insurrection. They're still on court dockets but may be doomed to failure by Trump taking office.

Trump went through a number of other promises, including declaring a national emergency at the US-Mexico border. This gives him sweeping powers to deal with the problem beyond what has been authorized by Congress. By declaring a national emergency, he may be able to get around the prohibition of using the military on U.S. soil against U.S. citizens, as well as illegal immigrants.

Trump designated drug cartels as terrorist organizations.

Trump found the letter from Biden in the Resolute Desk after a reporter reminded him of its existence. He said he'll read it later and decide whether to share it with the public.

While he was signing orders, he said Elon Musk won't have a desk in the West Wing. There are other locations in the White House he could be. The roof would be good.

Trump and Xi had a phone call on Friday, which some might say is a violation of the Logan Act, which says a private citizen cannot negotiate government policy with foreign entities, but he's already done that with so many foreign leaders. Vice President JD Vance met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng while he was attending the inauguration.

The order by Biden protecting transgender troops was canceled by Trump. Still another target put on their backs. There is no database, but estimates are between 9,000 and 14,000 troops.

Trump said tariffs of 25% on Mexico and Canada could start as early as Feb. 1st. He still hasn't been told they would be disastrous or read the reports of economists.

Trump's executive order keeps TikTok operational for 75 days, not the 90 previously promised. There must be some logic, but no one knows what it is. Trump also said TikTok was worth $1 trillion, and the US should invest $500 billion in buying half of it. What happened to not increasing the national debt? What will Elon Musk and DOGE have to say about that?

While declaring the national emergency at the border, he again said that he thought he could bypass the 14th Amendment guaranteeing birthright citizenship with the executive order he was signing. The American Civil Liberties Union has already filed a suit suing Trump over the executive order. They said plainly that it is unconstitutional. Trump did it by stopping certain documents from being issued. He also shut down the app that has been used by immigrants for application processing and canceled all scheduled appointments.

The art of the deal was apparent with Trump saying that he will soon talk to Putin and that he thinks Zelensky wants to make a deal to end the war. Trump has talked to Zelensky several times recently, and Zelensky said his talks with Trump were positive, but nothing else.

In one of a string of ignorant executive orders, Trump signed one to withdraw the US from the World Health Organization. He tried to do it in his first term. Once again, it's over the handling of Covid-19 and what do he calls dues to the WHO. The US has provided WHO with $116 million to $815 million over the last decade, each year. Also, he complained about collusion between China and WHO on Covid-19. Dr. Ashish Jha, who worked with Biden during Covid, called it a "strategic mistake....it creates a political vacuum that only one country can fill, and that is China."

Trump unilaterally with one order suspended all assistance to foreign nations for a period of 90 days. This is to allow a review of current policies to see if they benefit the United States. Unclear as to what this means, because funds appropriated by Congress are obligated to be spent.

After Joe Biden commuted 37 federal prisoners on death row to life in prison, Trump signed an executive order directing the Attorney General to have appropriate Federal cases seek the death penalty, and preserve the death penalty in states that have tried to use lethal injection. He wants to make sure they have access to those drugs. Bloodthirsty Trump is at it again.

Trump talked about Gaza as a real estate opportunity with wonderful coastline, at the same time as he was saying that he didn't think the ceasefire between Israel and Gaza would last. He declared it's their war not ours. "Some fantastic things could be done with Gaza. Some beautiful things could be done with Gaza."

Then Trump did as much as he could to destroy alternative energy provided by wind. The executive order halted sales of offshore leases and stopping approvals, permits, and loans for both on Shore and offshore when projects. I did a diary called Donald Quixote that covered this very subject.

As expected, he signed an order for temporary 6 month security clearances for some aides whose FBI background checks are still ongoing. It's just like in his first administration when he demanded security clearance for Ashton Kushner.

Trump eats Air Force One at an inaugural ball.

Trump signed an order restoring Schedule F, giving him more control over the federal workforce. Talked about in Project 2025, he promised to replace 50,000 workers with loyalists to do his bidding in his attempt to remove the "deep state."

Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska was angry about Trump wanting to rename Mt. Denali back to Mt. McKinley.

In another petty move, Trump removed the security clearances for the 51 intelligence officers who sent the letter about Hunter Biden's laptop. Many are already retired. He directly went after John Bolton, his former National Security advisor and removing a security clearance. Trump said, "They should be prosecuted for what they did."

Senior leadership at the Justice Department overseeing the nation's immigration courts were summarily removed on Monday. Most were stunned as they had been serving in these positions for decades.

This was all only on Day One. There's probably a lot more I missed. I hate to say this, but this is only a taste of things to come.
