The Danger of Overestimating Trump [1]

This post will likely be anathema to the many who prefer to fantasize about work camps and show trials and late night door knocks from armed jack-booted thugs, but I need to push back against the tendency to characterize Trump as all powerful, or worse, undefeatable.
The truth is, we need to start evaluating our own relative power collectively if we are to change the situation. To me, the biggest hindrance towards ousting the orange fuckwit is the erroneous beliefs that A) power comes from mere explanatory information, and B) the fact that we seem to prefer a siloed digital low-cost resistance. In the first case, despite the cliche , knowledge is NOT power in-and-of- itself. Knowledge can be demoralizing and paralyzing without a sense of further steps or actions. In the second case, we are hampered by our Pavlovian response to the dis/ information regimes ( social media, this web site etc.). In point of fact, our money and tacit support, our tax dollars, our eyeballs, consumer dollars, our acceptance of the system, is one of the reasons why Trump exists. Obedience, acceptance, and investment ( investments of attention, resources, and especially labor) are pillars of the authoritarian’s strength, which is why seeing politicians smiling and kissing Trump’s ass in a search for comity and collegiality may, in the short term, be necessary for optics and keeping the Republic chugging along like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but it is not something we should be doing for the long term. In fact, long term we need to be planning for mass resistance….see the former Easter Bloc countries for ideas….I am still waiting to see a conversation start here….
