Let me break this down for you, point by point. [1]

Seems to me, the overall wisdom for all humankind is:

Give yourself and others tender loving care.

For those who have a spouse, and/or children, and/or pets, you are normally giving that tender loving care, food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and entertainment, to everyone in your home.

If you have a job, you give the tender loving care, in the way of working as a team, to your bosses and your co-workers and your customers.

I am retired, and I live alone nowadays, so I mostly take care of myself.

But I give that little bit of tender loving care to others, my landlord, my neighbors, and my family and friends on my computer screen.

Including here at Daily Kos, where I have some rather close friends at the Itzl Alert Network.

I use that as my emotional support group, since my wife died about three years ago.

Anyway.

Let me zero into politics.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,—That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

That seems to be getting into how our government gets involved with that tender loving care.

The word “Happiness” with a capital “H” is in there twice.

Democrats want to use government to help us with our happiness.

Republicans want to fight the Democrats.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

“Promote the general welfare” sounds like giving each other tender loving care, to help us with our Happiness.

But how is our government supposed to do that, exactly?

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States

Taxes!

The government needs to collect taxes, and use that tax money to promote the general welfare, to help us with our Happiness, to give us tender loving care.

Here in the USA, we have our federal, state, county, and city governments collecting tax money, and using that money to help us all.

I live in Wichita, Kansas.

So, I have the federal government, the State of Kansas, Sedgwick County, and the City of Wichita, all collecting taxes in order to help me, to give me some tender loving care.

Among all the many things that government provides, I want to point out these items:

Streets

Roads

Highways

Bridges

Sidewalks, with curb ramps mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990

Police

Firefighters

Ambulance service

Just a few hours before my wife, Tonia died of kidney failure, her nurses and I accidentally dropped her out of the bed, onto the floor.

We had a Hoyer lift, but the nurses called 911, to get help from the strong firefighters, just to make sure we could get her back into the bed.

That made us all feel so good, to get her in the bed, and comfortable.

Just a few hours later, she stopped breathing.

Democrats want to make sure we have all these things, that we have all this help when needed.

Republicans want to fight the Democrats.

What did Trump say at his inauguration?

Fight the natives who like to call their mountain Denali.

Fight the Mexicans, who have the Gulf of Mexico named after their country.

(Do they even care about that?)

Fight the folks in Panama, and take back the canal.

Fight the immigrants, no matter how well they are giving us tender loving care.

My neighbors, who are immigrants, often give me free food.

That is how I get about 80% of my food.

(They apparently go to the free food pantries, and they give me what they do not want.)

(They give me lots of canned salmon and peanut butter, along with mac n cheese and canned soup.)

I only go to the store to buy some ice cream and candy.

But above all, the Republicans want to fight the Democrats.

Republicans like to quote Ronald Reagan:

The nine most terrifying words in the English language are "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."

When my wife, Tonia, fell out of the bed, the City of Wichita paid those firefighters with tax money to come and give us tender loving care.

Republicans hate the government.

They hate the Democrats.

They actually give themselves and their families and pets plenty of tender loving care.

But they would love to pay zero taxes, and tell all of us Democrats to just go away and die.

So many folks say that we Democrats need to work on our messaging.

This Daily Kos essay is the message I think we should preach, all day, every day, to all the voters, from now until we Democrats win all the elections.

And then keep preaching it even after that.
