Garth Hudson, the last surviving member of a group that once backed Bob Dylan and left us with a legacy of great Americana music has passed on. Starting out professionally backing Ronnie Hawkins, the Band merged Dixieland, Americana, rock n roll, blues and folk music into a style that was all their own. Music from Big Pink and Dylan’s Basement tapes were among the notable remembrances that this band left us with. In concert they could rotate among the instruments in the group and not miss a lick. Garth played some of the strangest licks that always seemed to fit in. Up On Cripple Creek and Chest Fever were always favorites of mine. RIP Garth.
