Endless Doom Declarations Are Not A Plan, So Do Something Else [1]

I hate to beat a broken drum, but I am getting tired of the absolutist rhetoric around here regarding future predictions of apocalypse and hopelessness. If imagining the worst and sitting around is what gets you motivated, fine. I don’t understand it— but fine, please continue. I however have my doubts about the use of this beyond catharsis.
It is not that I don’t think our condition isn’t serious, but one can only say “we are fucked” in so many ways before this place starts to resemble MSNBC-— and we all know how useful their histrionic bleating has been in stopping Trump. Sure, I am glad for the speaking out; glad we are highlighting people such as Timothy Snyder; glad we are sounding the alarm against fascism. But ultimately, what is lacking are concrete suggestions about what can be done. Whatever shape such resistance takes it will likely be built on mass solidarity that necessitates getting out of our digital silos and comfort zones and working in ways beyond legalisms, voting, and symbolic protest. It will likely take mass non-violent resistance ( those comfortable doing so) with forms of disobedience up to (yes) willfully and peacefully, breaking the law. That is just a potential fact. That is where I think we are politically.
I am not saying that we all need to take such calculated risks, but I am saying that we need to start a serious conversation— one that does not overstate the power ( or mischaracterize the capabilities) of the other side. An estimate needs to be made of the strengths and weaknesses of the Trump regime ( and there are always weaknesses if we are willing to exploit them), and a plan for pushing back against the “death star” as it were...
