Anti-Inaugural Ball
Our condo complex is a working class neighborhood. As I’ve mentioned here often, we have gotten to know many of our neighbors. More than mere proximity, our paths have crossed through political action groups such as post carding and political gatherings all over the county.
Recently we received an invitation to gather in the condo’s clubhouse, a rentable venue. This was going to be
“a gathering place for individuals who are concerned about the incoming administration and what that means for us as individuals, family members, and shareholders in our community.”
I suspect I’ll know many of the attendees, bur I don’t have any idea who all has been invited. The invitation suggested there would be some program, and we were invited to contribute or just listen.
I wrote this much just prior to the gathering. I’ll have time to report before publishing. Wine will be served, so coherency might be marginal.
O K I’m back. We had about 40 people, in a circle. The leader had discussion subjects on large sheets, and we went around in order for our opinions, like why did you come, what did you expect, number one concerns for the next administration, where do you get your news, what will you do, etc. Heartfelt comments, some tears, good sharing. We acknowledged we should try to communicate with the other side, other viewpoints.
Book recommendation for me: Bandy Lee book “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump.”
Good meeting; we’ll do it again. Many of the participants were a part of the local law enforcement and probation community.
