Kitchen Table Kibitzing: The Inauguration [1]

It’s Tuesday afternoon and over at Bluesky, Michelle Obama is trending with the news that she will not be in attendance Monday at the inauguration. Makes me wonder if anyone here will be following the news that day. I can recall back in January 2017, turning on MSNBC for a few minutes because there was still a little part of me that held onto the hope that something miraculous would happen to change things at the very last minute. I don’t hold onto that hope this year; the period of time since the election has been breathtaking in its cohesion and single mindedness of purpose. The 47th president comes to his second term with promises of scores of executive orders on Day 1 and an administration stacked with loyalists, legacy media at the ready to tow the line, and billionaire backers.
The former first lady has said she did not enjoy attending the 2017 inauguration —
"[T]here was no diversity, there was no color on that stage. There was no reflection of the broader sense of America. Many people took pictures of me and they’re like, you weren’t in a good mood. No, I was not," she said.
