x Fire crews responded to a fire on Thursday at the Moss Landing Power Plant, which prompted evacuation orders for residents nearby. Video from the owner of the inn at Moss Landing Point shows a bright ball of flames emitting from the site.

Because this plant also stores electricity via batteries I’d think it kind of a big deal. Much of the difficulty with solar and wind is they don’t produce electricity when it’s night and no wind, battery storage is a way around that issue without resorting to burning carbon. Safe dependable batteries are important.

Wiki has a history of the generation at the plant. Sounds like a big place. Ten or fifteen miles south of Santa Cruz.
