Pete Hegseth was fired from two different nonprofits for diverting their funds to his own use. But he was not sued to recover the funds, nor legally charged.
Wayne LaPierre lived large on NRA funds for years, and faced no consequences until the state of New York got involved.
Can any of our legal Kossacks explain to me why these were not instances of embezzlement, and charged as such? Is there some wrinkle in the law regarding profit vs. nonprofit organizations? Are the nonprofits simply declining to hold their bad actors accountable? Refusing to spend the legal funds? WTH?
