Biden Mistakes May Have Cost an Election, but Trump Betrayed America and Committed Treason [1]

The armed mob that Trump ordered to attack the Congress.

President Biden made a series of eventually fatal misjudgements early on in his presidency that inescapably led to Trump being able to run out the clock on facing the music for his deeds and his betrayal of his country.

Biden’s biggest mistake was the first major presidential decision he had to make, which was, without question, appointing Merrick Garland as his Attorney General.

Trump Committed Treason

The January 6th bear spray gassing of the police.

While Biden committed an error in judgement, Trump committed criminal acts of treason towards his country which in another time he could be executed for.

Dastardly acts which were unforgivable and will now forever be buried under the rug. It became virtually impossible, the longer things dragged on, to convince the general public that prosecution of Trump was not partisan and instead motivated by Trump’s highly obvious and visible crimes in the current polarized national climate.

Running out the Clock

Trump and the Republicans flooded the on-line, T.V. and radio news cycles claiming the long delayed prosecution was a partisan “witch hunt.” Biden’s claim of impartially in hiring Garland, true or false, was rarely believed or heard.

Time was not on Biden’s side, but it is not clear if Biden agreed with such a judgement.

All the factors that later ganged up to help Trump escape his well deserved fate originated with that first Garland decision. Enabling Trump to run out the clock on when his indictment was finally handed down almost three years later by special prosecutor Jack Smith, whose report was finally released today.

A Toothless Biden Approach

Toothless

Why Biden chose a Republican-light candidate like Garland remains a mystery. Biden seemed to lock himself into a no win situation when he said the day after January 6th, 2021, “Garland would be a lawyer for the people and not the president.” And that “Garland would help restore the DOJ’s independence from the White House.”

Given Garland’s Republican-light history in many areas was demonstrated by the almost two year delay in appointing a special prosecutor and almost three before an indictment was issued. His appointment became an unintended gift to Trump. I’ve also always felt that Biden’s consistently low approval ratings could be partially linked to the weakness shown by the long delayed prosecution of Trump.

The Trial Delay Was a Fatal One

I suspect there may have been a reluctance on the part of Biden to have Trump prosecuted, perhaps believing it would generate civil war, or perhaps because he was still clinging to his belief that bipartisanship could be returned one day to the nation. Or both. A fatal misjudgement in my opinion whatever his reasons.

Biden had to be familiar with Trump’s legal delaying tactics. But after a full year went by with nothing happening of consequence, Biden failed to remove Garland for either the delays or incompetence. 1 After almost two a special prosecutor was finally appointed, which could have just as well been done back in January of 2021 shortly after the attempted coup.

Almost another year goes by until indictments are finally handed down.

What if Lincoln Had Delayed Responding to the Ft. Sumter Attack?

Ft. Sumter in 1861.

You’d have thunk almost any President or Attorney General throughout our long history would have understood the consequences of traitor Trump escaping swift prosecution. And would have acted quickly in response to his treasonous January 6th, 2021, coup attempt, one that featured nationally televised violent attacks ordered against both Congress and even his own Vice President.

But you would have thunk wrong, as it turned out. The delays are in some ways comparable to President Lincoln ignoring the Confederate’s treasonous attack on Ft. Sumter in early 1861 until late 1863. Surely Garland should not have been allowed to drag his feet for almost three years to prosecute Trump but rather have struck while the iron was hot. The unconscionable delays sent a clear message of Presidential weakness to both Republicans and their packed Supreme Court. Both conspired with Trump to take the steam out of the national will to punish Trump after such fatal hesitations occurred. It will be so recorded this way, I believe, in future history books should fascism ever be overthrown.

Thirty Two Freaking Months

Merrick Garland

The long delayed and now virtually useless indictment came down in August of 2023. Almost three years (32 freakin months) after the coup attempt.

By then it was more than clear that Trump would be able to run out the clock up and allow himself to enter the next election in 2024, to run as a presidential candidate who sponsored a treasonous and violent coup against his own government.

Next: The Coup de Grace

Then came the coup de grace and the bogus presidential immunity decision handed down by the Supreme Court after the Democrats demonstrated they were toothless. Setting the stage for Trump’s improbable victory and ending America democracy as we once knew it.

Trump delivered himself for prosecution on a silver platter with a ribbon tied around him, while Biden spit the bit and in effect allowed him to escape his fate. This abject failure to hold Trump accountable quickly can only be placed at the feet of President Biden and his appointed Attorney General, Merrick Garland. Whatever Biden’s motivations turn out to have been, it will not change the disasters the country will now suffer because of another Trump presidency. []

1 — Biden could have given any number of plausible reasons for removing Garland other than the delay in prosecuting.
