Renewable Tuesday: But What Can *I* Do? [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Rule #1, Don’t obey in advance. Rule #2, Don’t be helpless. They are trying everything they know of to teach us all to be helpless before their entitled evil. Rule #3, Look for the helpers. (Mr. Rogers). If you haven’t looked, you will be astonished how many helpers there are, and how much you yourself can help. Rule #4, you don’t have to solve the whole problem, but you are not free to shirk your part. (H/T Talmud)

Critics blast DEI, Dems, bad forestry, eco-activists for L.A. fires but never mention climate crisis

by Meteor Blades (Daily Kos Staff Emeritus)

I tell people regularly what we can all do, here on DK and increasingly on BlueSky. Meteor Blades is active there, and so are many others. We can now embed BlueSky posts, including images. Thank the DK elves. x This is the world’s first steel made without burning fossil fuels. Steel is a massive emitter so this is hugely important! We have so many solutions to solve the #climatecrisis. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #ClimateAction #reneables #renewableenergy

Jonathan @renewableenergy.bsky.social has created a dozen climate-related BlueSky feeds. We are working together on bugs in the feed system. Anyone here with Free Software/Open Source experience should talk to us about fixing that code. x I’ve launched 12 custom feeds, each linked in comments! 👇🏼 1. Energy Transition Hub

#greensky — Jonathan (@renewableenergy.bsky.social) December 23, 2024 at 2:24 AM #10 should be “Agrivoltaics”. For yourself, solar panels, battery storage, an electric car and charging point, a heat pump, an induction cooker, maybe native plants rather than grass in the yard. Make yourself independent of the grid. I gave my son Certifiable Genius and his wife an induction cooker for Christmas, and some iron-and-steel-bottomed cookware. For your community, electric school buses and many other EVs, with solar panels over schools, garages, public buildings, parking lots; heat pumps in public buildings; changes to zoning to mandate all of the above plus charging points in new and modified buildings; public charging points payable by credit or debit card. Consider creating walkable neighborhoods and adding congestion pricing for cars. Call out corporate denial, and join in lawsuits against the Fossil Fools. None of this is rocket science or brain surgery. Quantum photochemistry, yes, to some extent, but we have many experts working on those lines. The psychology of rescuing death cultists from delusion, yes. Not obeying in advance, yes. If you do any of the above, and tell your friends and neighbors and fellow citizens the truth about it all, you are way ahead of the game. If you do all of it that comes your way, please come here and write about it. MB and I will boost your posts in ours.

Note that this is Religious Freedom week. That means that those who claim to follow Jesus devotedly, only making sure never to catch up with him, can deny that God would allow Global Warming, and try to outlaw EV mandates. They have a perfect right to be Fossil Fools. Congress can’t pass laws to stop them doing so. But the First Amendment doesn’t prevent citizens from calling them out. Never mind their screaming. In fact, whatever they scream about loudest, do more of.

</snark> to the max

Also, if you have not done so, flee the lies and hatred on X and Facebook, and get yourself established on Bluesky, which has unmatched resources on fighting Global Warming. We’ll help.
