Good News for the Future of Desalinization? [1]

Just saw this at the Cool Down regarding a potential new breakthrough in the desalinization of seawater that could have significant benefits over current technologies:

Researchers at the University of South Australia have made a major breakthrough in addressing global water scarcity, according to Tech Xplore. Over 70% of the world may be covered in water, but the vast majority is in the ocean — which is undrinkable. Up to 36% of the global population is without freshwater for at least four months of the year, and that number is at risk of doubling in the coming decades, Tech Xplore reported. … The researchers were able to speed up the evaporation rate of seawater to be 18.8% higher than pure water. The previous standard for seawater was 8% lower than pure water, making this a landmark achievement, Tech Xplore explained.
