When Trump Stalked Hillary: What Should Have Happened at the Town Hall, October 10, 2016, but Didn’t.
I always thought Bill had the ball and dropped it. Suppose at that moment, he’d jumped up and in three strides crossed the space and punched Trump hard enough to send him sprawling, and then shouted, “How dare you, Sir! How dare you stalk my wife! You approach her like that ever again and I’ll thrash you senseless, you damnedable scallywag! By God, I’ll thrash you!” And then sat down. Great Theater, and Trump gets punched.
For those now shocked, let me say that he actually didn’t need to do anything more than get up and stand between Trump and his wife. Glaring fiercely? Maybe, but I think smiling fiercely would have worked, too. A lot less to cause concern for his Secret Service guys, too, because if he’da been standing there squaring off with the Big Bully, but not making the first move, Trump would’ve found something that needed investigating on the other side of the room...
I also believe this would have won the election for Hillary. People saying, “Oh, Ha, Ha! That Bill...What a rascal! He might play around, but it don’t mean a thing! He’s there when it matters.” People would want to have four more years of the Bill and Hillary Show...
But there was Trump-in the present moment-bullying his wife (!) on national and international TV. In this scenario, Trump represents what we could expect a lot more of, if nobody acts. Bill Clinton represents those who had the opportunity to act -to boldly act-and change that future, but didn’t. This is why we’re here now. In all fairness, back in 2016, Bill Clinton might have been taken by surprise. No one has that excuse anymore.
We’re at the point in the story where the people are asking: Is there no one to stand up to this criminal? Commissioner Gordon has the Bat-Signal projected up in the clouds over Gotham City. Jimmy Olson has set off his signal watch: “Zeeeeeeeee!” What will happen next? I have the corner of the page in my hand, and...
