Trump In Memorium [1]

President Carter’s funeral was incredibly moving. The stately hymns, then tribute after tribute for a life amazingly well lived.

It was a way to honor a man who did what more of us should do.

Donald Trump, to my amazement, behaved with as much reverence as he could manage. His wife looked like she’d been baptized in lemon juice (To use a southern expression.). But she was decorous too.

I got to thinking of what Trump’s funeral would be like.

He is a former president, not like Carter, but he did occupy the West Wing. So, presumably, he will, someday, lie in state in the Capitol rotunda, and there will, someday, be a memorial service for him in the National Cathedral.

But it will be very different.

Instead of the old hymns, there will be pop tunes from the seventies and eighties, when he and his first wife were stars of the club scene.

Then, the tributes. It will be interesting to hear what his children have to say about him. He wasn’t a hands on father, except with his oldest daughter. The less said about that the better. There will be no happy stories of going fishing, or fatherly wisdom.

They will mention their father, then talk about themselves.

Then there will be the others, celebrities, politicians, televangelists, who will talk about themselves, with a brief mention of the late president. Because they never really cared about him. They had an agenda. He promoted it.

Donald Trump hasn’t achieved much. He fixed the skating rink at Rockefeller Center. He built some luxury hotels, and sold a lot of merchandise.

Then there’s Truth Social, which may or may not survive him.

But the eulogies will be, Donald Trump promoted my pet cause, so he was good.

Because Trump hasn’t achieved that much. He is and always has been a rich man’s son, suffering from a bad case of affluenza.

When he goes, he will not be missed.
