Another Saturday Night: running [1]

Welcome to another Saturday night of music, memories, and conversations. So today is my 61st birthday, and I ran 1.6 miles this morning. In late 2023 I decided it was stupid that I couldn’t run even 1 mile, so I decided to change that. It took a lot of work, but I ran my first mile in October. Playlists have been crucial in my running journey. I need distraction and music takes me to a different world.
Perfect songs for walking warm up:
Arabesque by Coldplay
Great sound & beat, and a great message: we share the same blood
Heart Home by Snow Patrol
Sweet song, with such a Gary line: “maybe you’d know I love you if I think it louder”
And some good “I’m just here running” songs
I Am A Mountain by Coldplay
Wild Horses by Snow Patrol — has a line that’s my mantra “it hasn’t finished you, it’s only that it feels that way”
Take Back the City by Snow Patrol, which I think is just the best running song
Nina Cried Power and Someone New by Hozier — NCP is another great message song, Alison Stewart by my friends December, Times Like These by Foo Fighters, New Sensation, Need You Tonight, What You Need by INXS.
I have some songs that give me reason & energy to keep going, I put them at points where I know I’m gonna want to quit. No really — the right song can persuade me to keep going.
U2 City of Blinding Lights
This is the one. Back in my triathlon-doing days, this is the one I’d play in my head (no music/headphones on triathlon courses) when I didn’t think I could go on. It makes me feel like I can fly.
Great New one from Snow Patrol — Everything’s Here and Nothing’s Lost
