Genet: A Biography by Edmund White - Read through a small section about Genet’s military service in Syria and Morocco and his meeting and one letter to celebrated French author Andre Gide. Slow reading these parts...the prevalence of the military in Genet’s writing has always fascinated and while I’m aware of the encounters with Gide, I don’t remember much about them and White covers this well.

Entering the Silence: Becoming a Monk and a Writer (The Journals of Thomas Merton Book 2) by Thomas Merton - Submerging myself into reading this again because I am also reading to books for overall “spiritual development” that I am not placing on these lists here and the Merton is now beginning to correlate with what these other books say. Still in the middle of August 1949.
