Of all the crackpot ideas to come out of Donald Trump’s fevered brain, this may be the worst. The soon to be president of the United States who knows nothing of American history wants to embark on the greatest land acquisition since the Louisiana Purchase. There are some problems with this, obviously. For starters, how about the word “purchase”. In 1804, Napoleon was in control in France and strapped for cash. Thomas Jefferson knew a good deal when he saw it and bought the land mass that more than doubled the size of the United States. Trump seems to think that the Canadian government would just hand over the nation under threat of conquest. He likes threats. They seem to work for him. His base loves it. But come on, prez! This is just stupid, and dangerous.
Around the world, nations looked anxiously at our upcoming elections, wondering if we would really do the unthinkable and reelect this numbskull. But idiocracy prevailed, and here we are with a president who promised would prevent World War III but plans to Make America Colonialsts Again. Acquire Greenland? Piece of cake! Take back the Panama Canal? You got a problem with that, Panama? Torpedo NATO? What have you deadbeats done for us, huh?
This is the worst. Worse than Tulsi Gabberd, worse than RFK or Pete Henseth, although all those names also reflect colossally poor judgement. Strap in folks. This could be a wild ride.
