Welcome to the New Day Cafe? This is an open thread.

Feeling down? World got you anxious? Color psychologists’ consulted by Homes and Gardens UK have a solution---calming and upbeat colors for your home.

Dr. Zena O’Connor of Design Research Associates has examined responses to color and concluded that tone and saturation have as much of an effect as a chosen color. The combinations of color choices are also key.

What colors and combinations are most psychologically pleasing? Here’s what experts have to say:

-Dark brown sand and bright white

“To create a space conducive to concentration and study, take typical neutral colours and make them stand out. One way to do this is to choose a bright, bold white and pair it with an earthy dark brown sand colour. ‘Neutral colours are generally accepted to include white, off-white, plus variations of cream, beige, achromatic hues, and varying shades of grey,’ O’Connor says.”

-Light pink or coral and turquoise tones

“While seemingly from different colour families, this colour combo works well together. Susan Hayward, founder of Susan Hayward Interiors, says to combine these for a subtly energising effect. Coral offers a pop of energy while turquoise brings in the soothing effect of natural colours. ‘Some pretty greens work especially well if the room has a lot of greenery outdoors and [can] create a beautiful warm feeling by blurring the lines between the outdoors and indoors,’ she says. The cooler greens keep the room “airy and light,’ but you can add a pop of energy with greys, whites, or peach and coral tones. ‘The cooler the tones, the more restful; the warmer the tones, the more energising.’”

-Lilac and off white tones

Lilac and calm offer relaxation “with a note of activity.” (Much like the New Day Cafe itself.)

-Orange-red and charcoal-gray tones

Orange-red and charcoal gray pull people into a room and encourage sociability.

Surely you want a pull of sociability in your home?
