I am leaving FaceBook. Why you should too. [1]

With Mark Zuckerberg’s cowardly decision to bend the knee to the once and future king,, he has followed the precedents set by Twitter (elon musk), amazon, apple, and other multi-billion dollar companies and oligarchs.
I can no longer support this, nor should you. Facebook has already become an advertising mecca that watches everything you click on, directs ads and sponsored links towards you as you try to navigate among postings by friends, family and interest groups, all the while monetizing your data.
This was, until recently, the price of admission. I have friends with whom I can only connect with via FaceBook, as well as special interest groups that range from political, to local and automobile groups. All of these have been emotionally painful to drop, but just as the move from Twitter to BlueSky has been difficult, especially for journalists and influencers, it can and should be done.
For now, I am finding other venues to support my craving for social media. Specifically NextDoor for local news, TikTok for entertainment (suprisingly, there are some great progressive content providers there), and of course, BlueSky, PBS and BBC.
Now… if i can just quit Apple.
