Buying a Tesla Won't Stop the Fires [1]

Above sounded so outrageous I tried to check out the data. All I came up with was Our World in Data which seemed to bear it out.

Not mentioned is the rest of Asia which pumps out quite a bit and would come in at the #2 slot and that’s excluding India and China.

I also notice the commenter up above from the NYT entered Lhasa for his geographic location. Last time I was there it was impossible to log onto the NYT from the PRC. Lhasa being Tibet would tend to indicate not a China fan.

What we could do regarding China, Asia, and global warming would be to tariff imports based on their carbon footprint. Footprint would include carbon to manufacture as well as transport. More jobs for Americans, more income to offset our deficit, and a lowered offshored footprint. Paying someone else to pollute does little more than make us feel good about things we can’t see.

Our legislation on carbon, the parts I’ve noticed, have been laughable. Charging stations that don’t get built, huge tax breaks for the wealthy to buy luxury cars, basically blowing a bunch of money on our favorite corporations and NGOs.

Tariffs that work for our goals can also work for Republican goals of bringing manufacturing back to the US. I’m in favor of both. Blaming fires on what parts of climate bills passed or not we might as well blame God. Fires and climate change are a fact of life. They are reduced by building cities without stuff outside that can burn. Trees, bushes, fences, siding, roofs, of concrete, brick, tile and steel.
