We have to look beyond the stupidity and ask "Why?" [1]

It’s very easy to hear that Donald tRump wants to annex Greenland and laugh it off as more inanity from the future moron-in-chief.
The problem is that, as with most of the stupid ideas tRump presents, there is a grain of policy goal hidden in the cloud of bullshit.
While tRump might not know why we would want Greenland; someone behind him does.
We have to ask why would anyone want to annex Greenland?
Our media and our elected politicians should make it clear why the tRump administration would want to annex Greenland.
tRump’s story that he’s always though it looked nice can’t be proved and doesn’t hold water. There has to be a real reason. They even sent tRump Jr. there.
Simple answers I’ve pulled out of the air are are:
Empire: tRump has proposed annexing all of North America so far.
Size: While Greenland isn’t as big as it looks on certain maps, it is still large. It would increase the size of the United States considerably.
The above are easy ideas that someone like tRump (obsessed with building size and crowd size) could understand.
More complex answers could be:
Shipping lanes/rights: If Greenland is part of Denmark, then are EU shipping rules being imposed in North American waters? If Denmark were removed from the equation, would that benefit people who want to use the Arctic Circle without restriction? (Russia might want a place for its oligarch to moor yachts. Oil companies might want to ship crude and the EU restrictions are costly.)
Other energy reasons: Does Greenland have natural resources someone allied with tRump wants?
Space: Is it a good potential launch site for rockets? Can someone park a satellite in Geo Synchronous orbit for some reason that they could not do now?
Climate: (this is too farsighted for tRump) Do climate models suggest that Greenland will become a temperate region in the next few hundred years?
These are just ideas off the top of my head, but there is most likely a REAL reason that someone pulling tRump’s strings wants control of Greenland.
We in the opposition should make clear the reason. It’s not likely that it will “reduce the price of eggs” as we say now.
