Some Thoughts on This Rough Day [1]

It is a very bad arthritis day. I am reminded of my favorite haiku.

Pain makes man think.

Thought makes man wise.

Wisdom makes life endurable.

John Patrick

In that case I am a genius.

I believe all of us are suffering in a way. We are facing another four years of Donald Trump. We all have problems in real life. For me when I wake up it isn't a matter of will I be in pain it is how much pain will I be in. The trick is how will I manage it. How am I going distract my mind so I don't dwell on how much I am hurting. Nurse Pixie recommends lots of naps. Her motto is when in doubt sleep on it.

For me it is a matter of how many recipes can I create for my next cookbook. I create new art. I write. I am half way through my Steampunk novel. By the way if you would like to preview it a friend suggested I get some preview readers but she isn't into Steampunk so she can't help.

One of the main things I do is take care of Pixie. She is 20 years old or 96 in human years and has lived longer than any cat I have ever had. I give her loads of attention and we have interesting conversations.

I also write here. I try to encourage people. My life as a caretaker ended with me holding my little brother's hand for eight hours while he died. I had to make the decision to turn off life support and let him go. It was his time and before he lost consciousness I promised him I would stay with him.

Life is not easy but giving up is not an option. There is always something you can do. When something is on sale buy an extra can and donate it to a food bank. A few years ago I was at the store and I saw an eldery lady and she was dressed up. I complimented her on how she looked. Another time a young man ran to open a door for me and I turned to his father and told him his son was a real gentleman.

You don't need to make grand gestures. Something small or just a kind word could make a person's day.
