Another 1,970 lucky winners brings the Odometer of Russian Casualties to 800K.

Russia’s unlucky 810th Marine Brigade gets pounded once again. This command post was southeast of Sudzha.

x "On January 7, 2025, the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a precision strike on the command post of the 810th Separate Marine Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces near the village of Bila (Kursk region)." - the General Staff said in a statement. pic.twitter.com/VuYbIoR3Lx — WarTranslated (Dmitri) (@wartranslated) January 7, 2025

An attack like this should be referred to as a Pickett Charge.

A lucrative scam run by the Russian Defense Ministry.

x 2/ The VChK-OGPU Telegram channel reports that top Russian defence officials purchased old cargo ships destined for scrapping, for the price of new ships, redesignated them as military transports, and used them to transport arms to Syria before selling them to Turkish scrappers. — ChrisO_wiki (@ChrisO_wiki) January 7, 2025

3/ The scam was reportedly the work of former Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu (l) and his deputies Timur Ivanov (c) and Dmitry Bulgakov (r). All three have since been sacked, and Ivanov and Bulgakov have been charged with large-scale corruption. 4/ According to VChK-OGPU, the three used a shell company to purchase the ships, with the excess cost likely ending up in their own pockets. The ships made only a few trips to Tartus before being sold for scrap. They were reportedly in a decrepit and unseaworthy condition. 5/ Several old ships were purchased. They included the Vologda-50 (pictured here, formerly the civilian ship Dadali); Kyzyl-60 (formerly Smyrna); Dvinitsa-50 (formerly the Turkish cargo ship Alican Deval); and Kazan-60 (formerly the Ukranian ship Georgy Agafonov). 6/ The Kazan-60 had been sold for $300,000 in 2014 to a Turkish scrapyard to be scrapped, after sitting idle and rusting for many years. In 2015, the ship was resold to an offshore shell company controlled by Shoigu, and was incorporated into the Black Sea Fleet as a transport. 7/ The Russian MOD also hired the ferry Alexander Tkachenko from the Sovfracht company, owned by Dmitry Purim – an old friend of Dmitry Bulgakov. According to VChK-OGPU, it paid an exorbitant rate "and the difference went to the Shoigu team, through Bulgakov and Ivanov."

* In November, the official (monthly) inflation in Russia amounted to 1.5%, and in December, according to all forecasts, it should be more than 2%. If this trend continues, the official annual inflation alone will amount to 20-30%, Russian economist Shiryaev notes. * At the same time, real consumer inflation (i.e., the one customers see in stores) may be even higher. According to Russia's ROMIR Human Institute, which published data on consumer inflation until September 2024, it is three times higher than official inflation. * High inflation is related to the Russian Central Bank's actions. "The Central Bank has already stopped raising the key rate. This is pushing up inflation even more because inflation expectations [i.e., fear of rising prices] have now skyrocketed," Shiryaev says.

Russia has taken the village of Ivanivka, which is west of Kreminna.

Russia continues to attack Kherson.

Video of the aftermath of the attack in Kherson can be found here, but I am not embedding it because — WARNING — it is graphic.

The human safari going on in Kherson is also going on in Nikopol, which is directly north of the Russian-occipied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

The residents of Nikopol are accustomed to artillery strikes. With Russian troops based across the Dnipro River at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station only 4.2–6 kilometers away, daily attacks started in July 2022 and have never subsided. In 2024, Russian forces added “killer drones”—small FPV and Mavic drones—to their arsenal, bringing what is now known as “human safari” to Nikopol. “For almost three years, Nikopol has been in an active war zone,” says Natalia Gorbolis, head of Nikopol’s city council executive committee. “We face daily shelling. Residents, educational institutions, buildings and medical facilities are under fire. In addition, we suffer from daily, 24/7 drone attacks. I believe their goal is psychological pressure.” “Drones flew here before,” explains Kateryna. “But they never attacked us. They were just doing reconnaissance. We didn’t understand. We thought they were strange, moving stars. Later, we realized: drones.”

In Georgia, protests continue.

Russia’s gambit in Transnistria is to make the residents there freeze and blame it on Moldova and the EU, then resume gas shipments and appear to be the White Knight. But that might blow up in Russia’s face.

x What’s going on in Transnistria and what role can Ukraine play?

At first glance, it may look like Russia’s plan is working. The energy systems in Transnistria and Moldova are under severe strain, and Russian information campaigns are working to shift blame to the EU, Ukraine, and Moldova. In time, Russia may resume gas supplies to Transnistria, presenting itself as a ‘white knight’ while implicitly reminding everyone that this is their home turf. But in the current moment, there is a rare window of opportunity to subvert this Russian operation, and potentially undermine Moscow’s influence in Transnistria. That’s where Ukraine – as well as Moldova and Romania – can come in. When supplied with free Russian gas, Transnistria has one of Europe’s lowest electricity production costs. Infamously, it’s become a haven for crypto mining for precisely this reason. This advantage stems not only from free gas but also from an efficient energy infrastructure. So, the region has the capacity to produce and export electricity, but lacks its own resources to power their energy production. Ukraine, on the other hand, faces ongoing energy shortages due to Russian attacks on its infrastructure. Moldova has also been partially dependent on electricity generated by a thermal power plant in Transnistria. The EU, facing high energy prices, could benefit from an additional, affordable electricity source.

This is a long post from Tatarigami, who recently posted about problems in the Ukrainian military. He was criticized for that and this is his response.

In Western countries, think tanks play a more important role than in Ukraine, and they provide consultations at the highest state level. Among them, assessments have been formed regarding sources in Ukraine, and most official or well-known think tanks (which I personally respect very much, so I will not name them so as not to offend anyone) have a rather low level of trust. Not because they are bad, but because they often simply repeat the official narrative to the outside world: "everything is bad because there are few weapons. "I want to disappoint, but the most influential countries in the West know about most of our problems and, perhaps, even more than you think. Therefore, when any analytics or official message boils down to "Biden is a jerk, give me 500 F-16s" - you are simply crossed out from sources that claim to be objective. For example, my analytical group was able to collect and conduct investigations on such important topics as circumvention of sanctions for the production of the Su-57, the activities of Wagner in Africa and the expansion of gold mining, the first evidence of the transportation and storage of North Korean missiles in Russia, an analysis of the positive impact of ATACMS strikes on targets, and many other topics that made the front pages of the English-language media. Systematic lies or concealment of problems that are already known will simply remove you, if not forever, then for a very long time from reliable sources. And when you really need to convey some important information to the world, they will not listen to you, because you are a propagandist. For the same reason, I don't really approve of harassing journalists or Western politicians (although I do it on emotions myself), calling them scum - regardless of whether they are MAGA, democrats or journalists from another country. Maybe I will have to talk to some of them. Many people have already deprived themselves of such an opportunity, calling them worthless in the comments, thinking that this will somehow help Ukraine. Having at least some reputation, I had repeated opportunities to meet and speak not only with journalists from major publications, but also with some representatives of foundations. This allowed me, with minimal authority and without the authority of a propagandist, to find Western foundations to provide assistance or even simply change an opinion harmful to Ukraine.
