What IS the truth? [1]

I read the diary today with the link to the Philadelphia Inquirer article about the two attacks by military personnel on civilian targets. My purpose here is not to discuss that, but to ask a question, because that diary got me to thinking: If we are to continue as a democracy, what can we do to find out exactly why we lost an election we should have won?
There are endless articles about the racism, misogyny, tribalism, bigotry, and hatred driving Trump’s win, but they all seem to be based on internal reasoning and discussions among various experts on human behavior. I think all these points are valid, but there must be something else going on.
I think the only way we can get to the bottom of this mess is by talking directly to Trump voters and asking them why they felt he was the better choice. That will require a lot more guts than I have, because I’m still furious, weeks after the election. But I know there are many rational, calm, and thoughtful people here, so I’d ask you to please sit down with someone who voted for Trump and pin them down.
Why did they vote that way? Don’t settle for “He tells it like it is” because that’s a slogan. “What do you mean ‘tells it like it is?’” Have them explain which remarks/promises resonated with them.
I’m guessing you’ll have a lot of people ending up spluttering and unable to articulate why they voted for a man most of us find unendurable. But that knowledge is valuable, and we need to understand their POV before 2026.
As I said, I’m still angry, and I can’t speak reasonably. I thought about talking to a neighbor down the street who has been flying a Trump flag since 2016, but I’ll just end up screaming at her (and she has a daughter in the armed forces—she should know better).
If anyone here does undertake this thankless task, I’m sure we’d all like to know what you find out. Talking amongst ourselves is not likely to be productive, IMO. Thanks, and good luck!
