Trump: The First 100 Minutes [1]

U.S. presidencies are graded on a 100-day deadline. This time, as a measurement of presidential performance, began with Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933.

By contrast, Trump wants to focus on his first 100 minutes when he enters the Oval Office after his inauguration on January 20th.

Now, Joe Biden signed 17 executive actions on Inauguration Day, including rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, revoking the Keystone XL pipeline permit, and ending the Muslim travel ban. Throughout his presidency, Biden issued 147 Executive Orders. Trump is sure to leave the Paris Climate Agreement and reinstate the Keystone XL pipeline permit despite the fact that the project is no longer viable. In September 2024, Trump said, “I will ban refugee resettlement from terror-infested areas like the Gaza Strip, and we will seal our border and bring back the travel ban,”

In his first 100 minutes, Trump will issue Executive Orders rescinding most if not all of Biden’s Executive Orders. Since he can’t sign them fast enough, maybe he will use a really big rubber stamp that captures his enormous, black Sharpie signature.

I fantasize that among those initial Executive Orders, there will be three addressing history.

1 The first will be to declare himself the greatest President ever, even better than Washington and Lincoln.

2 The second will be to declare that he won the 2020 election and request the House of Representatives to create a Special Commission to “prove” his victory.

3 The third will be to declare that January 6th was a peaceful demonstration, a “day of love,” violently undermined by members of Antifa and provocateurs within the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. This Executive Order will build on a fictitious report issued on December 17, 2024, by Chairman Barry Loudermilk (GA-11) of the Committee on House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight and request a Special Commission to “prove” that he did not plan the January 6th insurrection. The report was an early Christmas present for Trump.

Of course, these are fanciful, but Trump, a legend in his own mind, really cares about how history regards him. If he could, he would even have his impeachments erased, which is why he has worked so hard to rebrand them as witch hunts. Since Trump, based on his first term, has already been rated as one of the worst Presidents in history, he can only go up, or can he?

Trump will issue several pardons on day one to individuals who pled guilty or were convicted of crimes on January 6th, 2021, to symbolize his intention to issue pardons for the 1,500 arrested, of which 1,000 have been found guilty, within weeks into his administration.

In addition to Executive Orders rolling back Biden’s border policies, Trump will issue Executive Orders allowing ICE officers greater latitude in arresting people with no criminal records, sending more troops to the Southern border, and restarting the construction of the border wall.

The intention of this post is to provide the background needed to assess what Trump actually does on Day One compared to his promises. It will likely be bad, but could it be worse?

Following is a list of 23 day-one campaign promises he made, although, according to the “Washington Post,” “Trump has made 41 distinct promises for his first day in office.” (We couldn’t find them all.)

1 “We love this guy,” Trump said of Hannity. “He says: ‘You’re not gonna be a dictator, are ya?’ I say: ‘No, no, no — other than Day One.’”

2 “Within two seconds” of taking office, fire Jack Smith

3 End Russia’s war against Ukraine even before taking office.

4 “On Day 1, I will launch the largest deportation program in American history.” i.e., “to get the criminals out”

5 End birthright citizenship

6 “Bring down inflation by increasing oil and gas drilling and rolling back clean energy regulations:” “I want to drill, drill, drill.”

7 End the “Green New Deal atrocities on Day 1,” although this bill never became law

8 “Terminate Kamala’s insane electric vehicle mandate, and we will end the green new scam once and for all.”

9 “End offshore wind projects.”

10 “The moment we win, we will rapidly review the cases of every political prisoner unjustly victimized by the Harris regime. And I will sign their pardons on Day One.” (To date, 1500 have been charged and over 1,000 convicted.) Trump also said, “I am inclined to pardon many of them. I can’t say for every single one because a couple of them, probably, got out of control,”

11 “Somebody graduates at the top of the class; they can’t even make a deal with the company because they don’t think they’re going to be able to stay in the country. That is going to end on Day 1,” by offering Green Cards or H-IB visas

12 Eliminate funds to schools that teach “critical race theory” and “transgender insanity.”

13 “Repeal Biden’s electric vehicle mandate”

14 “Keep men out of women’s sports.”

15 Cut funding for schools that have vaccine or mask mandates.

16 Order federal agencies to “cease the promotion of sex or gender transition at any age.”

17 “When I’m re-elected, I will cancel Biden’s artificial intelligence executive order and ban the use of AI to censor the speech of American citizens on day one.” (Biden’s executive order set goals to establish the U.S. as a leader in the safe and ethical use of AI.)

18 Repeal Biden’s executive order on expanding background checks for gun purchases.

19 Repeal Biden’s executive order on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the federal workforce.

20 Ease various fishing commercial regulations

21 Eliminate taxes on tips

22 “Rollback every Biden policy that is brutalizing American autoworkers” on Day 1

23 On Day 1, to return “to a foreign policy that puts America’s interests first.”

We should keep score and hold him accountable for his actions. He has no intention of doing anything that will benefit those of us who voted against him, the enemy within. The real question is, “How many things does he do that actually improve the lot of the people who voted for him?”
