To Honor Jimmy Carter Without Distraction [1]

Extremely short diary with two embedded videos.

Here is Chip Carter giving the eulogy at the Carter Center memorial service.

Here is AP’s live feed from the Carter Center where President Carter lies in repose. My understanding is that he will be there until Tuesday, whereupon he will travel to the U.S. Capitol to lie in state.

I have watched through two changes of his honor guard, and was astonished at the number of people coming through the Center at such an early hour. But what Chip Carter says as he first begins his eulogy makes it clear just how much this man is loved and honored by those near him.



For those dreading the presence of Trump at the state funeral, this should offer some alternatives and considerable comfort. I am not sure what length the AP video will be once the live feed concludes, but I expect some of the footage will remain available.

Rest in peace, President Carter. And thanks beyond measure to those who are keeping and will be keeping solemn vigil over you as you make your final journey.

Edit in: This has been written at 4 AM but is queued to post at 10 AM. I am up very early because my area is supposedly being snowed in, and I need to clear the snow from in front of my doors periodically. Slept earlier. Thought this would be a quiet time to keep vigil with the Honor guard. Have been warmly surprised by the number of people showing up to pay their respects even in the wee small hours. Thought those who dread seeing Trump at the funeral might prefer these alternatives.

Further edit: due to snow removal duties, I was able to watch four changes of the Honor Guard. One included a woman. She represented the Navy. I am sure others have included, and will include, women, but it was a great pleasure to see her take up her duty station. Several Black service members have also stood guard while I was watching. Mr. Carter would, I am sure, be pleased.
