Welcome to Street Prophets Sunday Coffee Hour. This is an open thread so grab something to drink and munch on and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you.
I have been interested in Steampunk for many years. Steampunk is generally 19th century historical fantasy with emphasis on steam technology. My first introduction was Jules Verne. He is considered to be one of the founding fathers of the genre. Another modern author that is important in this field is Michael Moorcock. The writer that really got me hooked was the late Randall Garrett with his Lord Darcy stories. The idea of almost scientific magic fascinated me. Steampunk generally takes place in around the Victorian era although the 1700's are also popular.
I am currently writing a Steampunk novel. In it one of the main characters is determined to beat a fatal illness by the use of both science and magic. I go back and forth between the present and the past. Some of the other characters are a woman from New Orleans with ties to voodoo, a villain suspected of killing her first husband, a family of romance writers, and my favorite Quincy who has just been hired to write the story of the above strange Pierpoint family. I write every morning. I got a lot written during a long power outage the other day. There was something magical about writing by candlelight that got the creative juices flowing. I even put a cat in the book at Pixie's suggestion.
I have an offer of a professional editor and hope to have the book finished by summer.
This is a passage from my Steampunk novel called "Reanimation Inc."
The scientists and magicians had an uneasy truce. The amount of money they were making greased the wheels. This machine was truly revolutionary. It would have access to all the knowledge in the man's brain and keep him in suspended animation indefinitely. The implications were staggering.
