In the mid 1930’s, my mother was a poor girl from a family of 4 girls, living in a mid-sized US city. She recalled many years later picking french fries out of restaurant garbage cans. She chuckled as she recounted it, she had to be careful, the restaurants didn’t want people to be eating for free (rats were OK). As we are entering a period of economic contraction or even collapse via the ignorance and greed of the plutocracy, empowered by Trump, Musk and etc., I hope the cruelty blasted by the MAGA movement does not get to that level, but I have no crystal ball. Regardless of events we, all of us need to be kind to one another, without prejudice, and help as much as we can.
