In Perfect Foreshadowing of 2025: Cybertruck Catches Fire in Front of Trump Hotel in Las Vegas [1]

Well, you really couldn’t ask for a better image of the coming Trump/Musk administration than this. It is being reported by multiple local news outlets that there was a vehicle fire this morning near the entrance of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. There is not much information at this time, but what we do have seems to show a Tesla Cybertruck as the vehicle that burned. This comes from two sources: one is the video posted to Xitter from someone in the hotel’s lobby. What is shown burning in front of the doors is pretty clearly a Cybertruck. Here’s the video (sorry for the Xitter embed):

x Cybertruck blew up in front of Trump hotel in Las Vegas. Those are our luggage by the door and that’s where we were when it happened. pic.twitter.com/KaVZXfGLNK — ayackle (@kaaaassuu) January 1, 2025

So this certainly seems to be from a firsthand witness. But this video is corroborated by pictures from reputable news organizations. KSVN News has pictures from after the fire was put out and one shows the now-covered vehicle. It has the obvious shape of a Cybertruck. Nothing else has that shape, so there’s not much chance that it’s something else.

So there we have it. We start this new year with Elon’s folly making a burning mess in front of Trump’s I-wish-it-was-a-casino-but-I-couldn’t-get-a-license hotel. A perfect metaphor for our coming administration.

UPDATE:

Thanks to Somchai in the comments for finding more and better video. We now have footage from cameras that caught the initial explosion of what is absolutely a Cybertruck. It looks to be surveillance footage from the hotel itself, given the angle of the camera to the entrance to the hotel. Here’s the embed (again from Xitter, sorry):

The explosion itself is dramatic-looking, but also looks a lot like it’s a low explosive. The subsequent minor explosions all around do look like pyrotechnic stars. So what’s being reported might well be accurate and the explosives involved were fireworks. While this might be an act of terrorism, it could just as easily be an accident. Current reporting is that the driver is dead and seven others were injured, two of them taken to a hospital but all injuries reported as minor.
