Two statements that describe my view of what's coming [1]

I wish everyone a Happy New Year, and I hope it will be.

I'm not optimistic. My view is based on the two photos below.

The voting one is a bumper sticker that has been on my car for several years. Since FDR, we have gone forward by voting D. Now we will find out how far backwards we are going by choosing R.

The second one is a postcard I bought in Berlin over a year ago. It says "The future was also better earlier." That observation is really true today.

Let me channel Thomas Hobbes about the future before us: For many, life will become nastier, shorter, and much more brutish.
