KosAbility: Which crackpot pseudo-medical advice will go mainstream in 2025? [1]

People with poorly understood chronic illnesses like Lyme disease, ME/CFS, and fibromyalgia are bombarded with wacko medical advice. Perhaps it’s because suffering people who aren’t offered meaningful legitimate medical attention are more susceptible to oddball treatment, especially if it is readily available and not terribly expensive. The internet and social media has broadly promoted peculiar treatments and given people a place to gather and encourage others in their dreams of improving their health outside the medical establishment. These “fixes” don’t require expensive gear, plus, while they aren’t impossible to access, most are just difficult enough to have the allure of being special.
Behind all these crackpot promotions are entrepreneurs hoping to profit off the desperation of sick people struggling to survive. It’s a cheap, easy route to authority, no special knowledge or skill is required to spout off stupid advice. Back in 2020, I tried to predict which of the oddball treatments would next appear as Trump’s brainstorm cure for covid. Now, nearly five years later, I’m doing it all over again to guess what RFK Jr has in store for the U.S.
Some of the weird advice I’ve heard has been harmless, for example Irish Spring soap bar under the bed covers at the foot of the bed as a cure for neuropathy. Others have been strange, difficult to access, and also seemingly harmless—like raw camel’s milk. But raw cow’s milk has never been risk free and with the surge of H5N1, it’s now highly risky. I first heard about coffee enemas 15 years ago and my reaction was to say “ewww.” But I thought it was probably harmless, if weird.
Thanks to the same internet that offers safe harbor for stupid ideas, we can look up more information on whatever new crackpot pseudo-medical advice this new administration offers. I looked for studies on the safety and viability of coffee enemas and found a 2020 systematic review that determined they aren’t safe or recommended. I wonder what new crackpot pseudo-medical advice will sprout up in the next four years.
Which of the off-the-wall medical advice have you heard before?
Ivermectin horse wormer medicine
horse wormer medicine Coffee enemas
Raw milk
No vaccinations, fluoridated water, GMOs, or 5G
What’s next?
