As Hurricane Helene Strengthens, Trump and Desantis Work To Weaken Our Response. AKA Project 2025 [1]

We woke up this morning to see another deadly hurricane drawing a bead on Florida. It’s now time for voters in Florida to wake up and realize that their Republican Governor, 2 US Senators, and state Legislature are asleep at the wheel or, worse yet, intentionally steering our nation off the climate cliff.

These Florida Republicans are doing everything they can to ignore the reality of climate change. Worse, they're perpetuating policies that paralyze our ability to respond effectively to the climate crisis.

Why? Because they're beholden to an agenda that won't allow for meaningful action on climate. It's not just negligence; it's calculated, and it's reckless. Furthermore, they are now trying to get out of paying for this mess by fully defunding any relief efforts and simply abandoning climate-impacted people to their fate.

But we know better. Their refusal to acknowledge the ever-changing climate is soon to be their undoing. While they’re still reading from through an outdated lens, the reality is shifting, and so is the electorate. More and more, voters understand the true nature of what's at stake—especially in a state that feels the brunt of these climate-driven storms.

According to a recent survey conducted at Florida Atlantic University, 90 percent of Floridians believe climate change is real. Yet the people who are supposed to represent us continue to deny and impede.

If we want to fight climate ignorance and inaction then Florida must be the front line this election year, supported by Democrats across the nation. Florida’s climate candidates and volunteers need to turn Florida blue and convince the voters to throw Rick Scott out of the US Senate and replace him with Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and while we are at it, put Kamala Harris in the White House by winning Florida.

Back in 2015, Florida Governor Rick Scott instructed his minions to halt the use of the term "climate change" in any state executive branch document. Doubling down on Scott’s delusional conduct, current Florida Governor Ron DeSantis this year signed a bill that erased references to climate change in prior legislation and removes climate mitigation as a priority when making energy policy decisions. Doubling down a third time, Trump and his goons intend on fully defunding any relief efforts to families and businesses to rebuild after intense hurricanes as shown in Project 2025.

In their contorted minds, it appears that Senator Rick Scott, Governor Ron DeSantis, and the Florida Republican Legislature think that their actions dictate physical realities in this world.

Unfortunately we’ll see first hand how this works out for us here in Florida as Hurricane Helena bears down on the state a day from now.

Investing in resiliency is necessary, but not enough. Surviving long-term climate impact requires prevention. It requires the ramping up of renewable energies nationwide, ASAP. We cannot win a climate battle simply by building storm proof bunkers and hiding as we wait for the enemy to eventually get us. They’d be obsolete before completed.

We must go on the offensive to survive and prevail. We must innovate, change, and grow. Many Democrats know this already. In fact, over 50 candidates and elected officials are supporting the Florida Green New Deal, which I authored.

Donald Trump, Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis have repeatedly shown themselves to be only interested in advancing their personal political ambitions. They will never confront the crisis of environmental collapse.

My name is Rock Aboujaoude, Jr. I am the one candidate in Florida who is fully focusing their campaign on climate issues. I am making it my mission to help other Florida candidates also draw attention to the climate crisis. I need your help to generate more Democratic votes in Florida Congressional District 12 so we can help Debbie Mucarsel-Powell defeat Rick Scott for U.S. Senate, and deliver Florida for Harris, and put Project 2025 behind us. Please support my campaign, and let's flip Florida together.
