Accurate Israeli Information sources about Gaza and the West Bank [1]

At a White House Correspondents dinner, Jon Stewart famously quipped that ‘Reality has a well-known liberal bias.’ The truth behind that joke is the reason that here at Daily Kos, no one repeats the misinformation constantly spewing from ultra-right-wing sources… except if those ultra-right-wing sources are Netanyahu’s government. That’s a problem because Netanyahu is a proven liar, an enemy of democracy and the rule of law, and an implacable opponent of peace negotiations that would result in a Palestinian state. It should go without saying that nothing that comes out of his mouth or the mouths of his spokespeople should be trusted. A corrupt ultra-right-wing government's propaganda should not be seen as a credible source of information here on Dkos.

I would suggest that maybe commenters and diarists looking for the truth should be looking to more credible Israeli sources that have, as Jon Stewart called it, a ‘liberal bias’.

Haaretz

‘News of the Land [of Israel]' is an Israeli newspaper. It was founded in 1918, making it the longest-running newspaper currently in print in Israel.

The Israeli government is putting pressure on the left-leaning newspaper Haaretz to line up in support of the government in its conduct of the war in Gaza. The communications minister, Shlomo Karhi, has suggested financial penalties be applied to the paper accusing it of “lying, defeatist propaganda” and “sabotaging Israel in wartime”. The proposal aims to cancel state subscriptions to the paper and “forbid the publication of official notices”. In response, the Israeli Journalists’ Union called the move a “populistic proposal devoid of any feasibility of logic”. Haaretz, which is an independent daily newspaper, has been publishing since 1919, and has frequently been the target of right-wing administrations.

It sounds like a newspaper guilty of committing journalism and speaking truth to power. Recent news and editorials:

Netanyahu's New Alliance With Hamas

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has no idea how to exit from the disaster inflicted on us by his old alliance with the Hamas monsters, but he already has a new alliance with it.

MK Danny Danon of Likud has found the solution to the Gaza problem. In an interview with Kan Bet radio, he revealed that he has been contacted by "countries in Latin America and Africa that are willing to absorb refugees from the Gaza Strip."

With All Eyes on Gaza, West Bank Palestinians Are Facing Unprecedented Violence

While the world is watching the Israel-Hamas war unfold in Gaza, Palestinians in the West Bank are suffering some of the worst violence and restrictions on their daily lives in years.

Israel Said 150,000 Gazans Must Flee South. Then the South Was Hit by Bombs

The humanitarian conditions in southern Gaza were already harsh and the crowding unbearable. There were reports of bombings at 6:51, 6:58 and 7:17 P.M. – and that was just the beginning

How Israeli Media Became a Wartime Government Propaganda Arm

After criticism of those in power in the initial days after the Hamas attack of October 7, the news channels have since devoted themselves to national morale, exclusively relying on official military statements and completely ignoring Palestinian casualties

The New Historians

The New Historians (Hebrew: ההיסטוריונים החדשים, HaHistoryonim HaChadashim) are a loosely defined group of Israeli historians who have challenged traditional versions of Israeli history, including Israel's role in the 1948 Palestinian expulsion and flight and Arab willingness to discuss peace Much of the primary source material used by the group comes from Israeli government papers that were newly available as a result of being declassified thirty years after the founding of Israel. Avi Shlaim described the New Historians' differences from what he termed the "official history" in the following terms: The official version said that Britain tried to prevent the establishment of a Jewish state; the New Historians claimed that it tried to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state

The official version said that the Palestinians fled their homes of their own free will; the New Historians said that the refugees were chased out or expelled

The official version said that the balance of power was in favour of the Arabs; the New Historians said that Israel had the advantage both in manpower and in arms

The official version said that the Arabs had a coordinated plan to destroy Israel; the New Historians said that the Arabs were divided

The official version said that Arab intransigence prevented peace; the New Historians said that Israel is primarily to blame for the "dead end". Pappé suggests that the Zionist leaders intended to displace most Palestinian Arabs; Morris believes the displacement happened in the heat of war. According to the New Historians, Israel and Arab countries each have their share of responsibility for the Arab–Israeli conflict and the Palestinian plight.

The Truth Will Set You Free

The US public was deluged with misinformation and nonsense that played on the outrage over 9/11 to justify an illegal war in Iraq launched on lies. The result was a security and diplomatic disaster for the US. US policy in the Middle East has been based on a fantasy version of the Israel-Palestine conflict that bears zero relation to reality. A perspective based on reality is needed, and for that, one needs accurate sources of information.
