YEAR END WONDERINGS [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

I wonder if those folks supporting *rump would be willing to allow the same presidential powers that they would grant to him to be used by any (or all) of the future presidents, regardless of party. Are they willing to let a minority run the country when they are in the majority? (Obviously yes, when you look at Congress!)

Why is it that so many folks are worried about what is happening at the border but not about what is happening in the countries that so many people are fleeing? Where are those militias and armed gangs getting their weapons from? Why do we spend so much time stopping people from coming in rather than stopping weapons from flowing out?

Why doesn’t Congress talk about raising taxes to balance the budget as opposed to cutting taxes and increasing the deficit? I think there is a lot of wasteful government spending but that the complexity of the laws/regulations/etc. of the government programs is too much for any one official or even department to do anything about.

Why do we allow the continuation of corporate welfare such as Medicaid for low income employed folks rather than require a higher minimum wage and employer provided benefits for everyone working more than 20 hours per week. No employer should be allowed to hire someone for two part-time jobs and deny them benefits as a full-time employee.

Why do some folks with lifelong disabilities have to prove the onset of their disability occurred before age 22? Especially if they are immigrants or the disability occurred because of a accident/medical emergency/etc.. The cracks in the social service programs are huge and more folks are falling into them as they age. Senior housing and home based services are not funded as they should be. Low wages for the home health aides are a significant problem that no one really wants to address.

How is someone supposed to work a minimum wage job and afford child care? The birth rate is declining but support of younger families is also being attacked. Education support is low as people complain about property taxes but how are our kids to learn anything when the classroom is too cold in the winter, too warm in the spring and fall, falling in over their heads, backing up in the bathrooms, etc.

Investment in the stock market is fine for retirement funds but does not translate into future benefits for the economy overall. No one wants to fund infrastructure unless it means more new jobs. Old infrastructure sits vacant because no one really wants to stick a ribbon on something that is not new and shiny. Old downtown office buildings might make nice apartments, but where are the grocery stores, bodegas, etc. needed to make life easier for those living where parking is at a premium?

Just wondering!
