Possible union-busting merger between CNN, CBS News would wipe-out CBS News as a news organization [1]

This trial-balloon article suggests a proposed “merger” between CNN and CBS News that would result in the firings of hundreds of journalists and support personnel, cuts that would rival the 1983 bloodbath at CBS News that was famously chronicled in the movie “Broadcast News.” Except for “60 Minutes” and a CNN-produced “CBS Evening News,” nothing would remain of the news organization known for luminaries such as Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite.
CNN, unlike CBS, is non-union. Union shops in television news protect journalists from arbitrary firings, thus enabling news writers to write freely without fear of say, politically-motivated retaliation.
Remember Chris Licht, who left CNN after a right-wing lurch at the network featuring a partisanly pro-Trump “town hall”? Most of us would prefer an independent CBS News.
