The "debate" on abortion is getting darker. [1]

Some things that I have recently realized or noticed regarding abortion in our post Roe world:
1. All miscarriages are abortions, but anti-abortion activists refuse to acknowledge this. This is something I was taught in my EMT class 15 years ago, and it is taught in just about every entry level healthcare course that addresses pregnancy. "Miscarriage" is just a polite way of saying "spontaneous abortion". An abortion that is caused by artificial means is an induced abortion. It can be very difficult to determine if an abortion was spontaneous or induced. Anti-abortion advocates will act like we are exaggerating the risk of women being prosecuted over miscarriages and stillbirths. They will act like the term “abortion” does not apply to what my own mother experienced: a small sac expelled from the body.
2. Anti-abortion folks will also insist that the procedure to end an ectopic pregnancy, an induced abortion, is not really an abortion. Except it is an abortion, and they are pushing laws against it whether they understand the semantics or not. Doctors usually will not risk being arrested, even if that is the only way to save a patient's life. Most of us average people can imagine ourselves risking getting fired and arrested if that’s what it takes to save a life. But the reason doctors won’t risk their careers is that they cannot save lives when sitting in jail or sitting in court. So doctors tend to err on the side of overcompliance. Badly written abortion laws are stopping doctors from saving lives.
Imagine a trolley problem with the same fetus on both tracks and a pregnant woman on just the one track. The logical thing to do is to pull the lever and save the woman, but touching the lever at all results in a criminal investigation.
3. I’m starting to see more anti-abortion activists oppose allowing abortions for rape victims. They are already posting memes about this on Threads. I ask them what they think the penalty for rape should be, and they say “Death”. Nobody should find this reassuring. As long as the Kennedy v. Louisiana ruling stands, knock on wood, then the death penalty cannot be applied in rape cases where the victim survives. Be aware that many of them believe that women who falsely accuse a man of rape should face the same penalty, so you can see how this would deter actual victims from reporting actual rapes. Also, many of them are supporting a known rapist to become President again. Since Republicans want to make it easier for rapists to pass on their genes, and scare victims away from reporting rapes, then their end goal is Rapetopia.
