One of my heroes of only recently (the last year or two) died three months ago and since he was relatively obscure, I didn’t notice. He had an incredible passion for music and teaching. If you’re interested in music and musicians, here you go (youtube link to his channel). The passion shows through and I just assumed that he was going to live forever.

I had the incredible good fortune to see my first music teacher a few years ago, in the small town where I grew up, at a funeral. He wasn’t there for the funeral, but he was passing through. The line of people that were his students and lined up to shake his hand and express their gratitude must have been 30 or 40 people long. He seemed to be happy that I was still playing and I got to tell him what a great introduction to my path that he set me on.

This holiday season, consider giving some thanks to the teachers and mentors that have made a difference in your life.

Rest in peace, Dom Fomularo.
